Thought I might start this topic following on from koolchris99 bemoaning the fact there were very few "supercars" at Thornfalcon. Let's have your views on what constitutes a super car is and when does a car become a "supercar" and when does it then migrate to being a "hypercar"?
I drive Astons so I have my own views but I reckon we could have a healthy discussion with this topic,
cheers LBS

It's a matter of opinion.

Been done to death on PH. To summarise all previous threads - Its subjective, so you can make up your own mind"

The beauty of this is that you cannot be wrong

something that makes me go wow, before i lived in london it was astons, lambos fez's, etc etc

after living in london its more select... for me a v8 vantage isnt a supercar, there were 4 in my carpark and 2 guys in my office had them.

I think my car is super, therefore it qualifies. Its in the eye of the beholder I think biggrin

As I am a poor bugger, I think anything along the lines of R8 V10, Lambo, Ferrari = supercar

So what your saying is that if they are not rare, they are not supercars ?
Just because they are popular, does this stop them being supercars ?

As you say subjective

I dont particularly classify them, I like many cars that are small and relatively cheap like Atoms, Westfields or Exige's but are they supercars, who knows.

I think my cars a supercar.
it has a racing pedigree although in standard form it won't quite top 200 mph which I think was how topgear defined "supercar".
I also think wessex's noble is a supercar it looks like a supercar should.

For me its about the sight and sound, if it looks and sounds like a supercar, and makes you go wow! then it is...

actually I've rethought it. I think its how it makes me feel. An aston db5 is a gorgeous classic sports car but not a supercar.however A Noble is because it looks and feels right. porsche 911 is not, fezza 308 is although not incredibly fast but its a supercar because it feels like one.

I think 'super' for me is something with exceptional performance and a dash of madness for its era, so the orginal V8 Vantage is one but the DB5 less so. The Noble M12 is one but the new M6 isn't one.

The hard bit for me is things like the 911, I would say the Carrera GT is Porsches super car and the newish 911s are sports coupes (like the the M6) - despite their performance!

Just my thoughts on it!

As it's subjective to the person, for me it's the feel. Either by driving or just being in it's presence.

Why are you selling this, have you actually managed to find a nicer car somewhere?

That is a super car though.

I think the general public's reaction to the car is a good indicator.

Personally, a "supercar" should be too expensive for all but <1% of the population to do more than dream about, not even aspire too. It also must have some kind of radical design concept, whether that be aesthetically or by way of engineering it doesn't matter.

A supercar doesn't need to be modified/improved, therefore, even with 730+bhp chimtvr's 'vette doesn't qualify (sorry Dave). They should also transcend some milemark for their day, eg. current cars should top 200mph and sub 5 sec 0-60. Cars from the 60's and 70's should top 150 and sub 6 sec 0-60.

Hypercars should be stupidly exepensive and completely impracticle!

It's more than numbers though, it's about passion and how it makes you feel when you see it.
