Hello all

Home is Bath for me, Trowbridge for the gf and we have been up in London (or according to her Surrey but it feels like central to me) for to long. So come the end of December we are planning to head to the Marlborough / Pewsey area.

A combination of being fed up with planes, trains, the M25 and a neighbour from hell (who buys a downstairs flat on a main road under the flight path with a narrow shared drivway anyway?!) mean we are very excited.

So who is in the area?! Any advice on where to find a good agent to rent a house from and thoughts about work would be much appreciated. I work in business and management infomartion developing what ever report / solution is needed so I am skilled up with the usual Excel and Access and VBA but also specialise in SQL, Cognos and am learning C#!

I can't wait to get down there biggrin

Hi Andy, I'm in the Pewsey area and I guess your best bet for rentals would be to visit Marlborough as they have the majority of letting/estate agents.

I work in a similar industry and there are a few smaller businesses in Pewsey/Marlborough that would be after your skills but to be honest Swindon is your best bet for work and thats only 30mins drive from Pewsey or 20 from Marlborough.

Let me know if you need to know anything else about the area.

Thanks for the quick reply, I will get in touch with estate agents there. Are there any areas to avoid?!
Do you work in swindon, I thought it would be worth looking there although working even more locally would be ideal! You mentioned some local companies, do you know any of their names?
Cheers

I work in Pewsey at the Fordbrook Business Centre and there are a few small IT companies in the estate but I wouldn't be too sure on the vacancy situation but your best bet is to google the local IT businesses and send your CV off as jobs aren't advertised very well around here.

In terms of where to live in the area, Pewsey is good due to its train links to Paddington and there are plenty of local shops for day to day things and some nice pubs. Marlborough is very nice but I imagine quite pricey for renting. Ramsbury/Aldbourne are also nice but they are quite small villages. You'll want to avoid any army towns if possible like Ludgershall and Tidworth, but in the Vale of Pewsey/Savernake Forest area there are so many Villages and Hamlets you cant really go too wrong the only problem is travelling to buy milk etc.

Which day are you going? I'll be there Sunday.

Or it might be me! Still 2 944T in the best colour in the same area must be a good thing. Are you on PCGB or Tipec?
If for some reason you end up looking for rental in Swindon avoid anywhere that starts with P.

Villages are definitely your best bet.

Even more convinced! Came into Marlborough and then pewsey both of which looked nice, went up to the white horse over devizes for a picnic and basically do not ever want to go back to survey!

Swindon is somewhere I do not plan to live wink but cheers for the advice.

What's your turbo like?! Mine still has work to be done. Rusty sills next month!! Love a project.

Andy,
The turbo is in reasonable nick and hopefully will be complete next year.
Needs a trip to JM in Christchurch for a few go faster mods, some decent suspension and a 3" exhaust.
Dealt with the bodywork this year and apart from the usual red issues its looking quite good.

Sounds about the same as mine but I have done a slightly different order, my electrics failed so went for am emerald ecu setup, rear roll hoop as went out on the ring, some bushes and removing boy racer tat that the previous owner slapped
all over her! Sills, removing broken abs, new battery, fix this that and the other still to come....

So I guess no one spotted me?!

Hi
Swindon resident here and travel in to Bristol daily. I do the trip in a Golf though, so if something ever does go wrong I block my ears and go "lalalalala". Because nothing ever goes wrong with a VW, don't ya know. wink

This reminds me, when are we having another Wiltshire meet? Or am I not invited? frown

If we can get Iain there in his Corsa, I won't feel the odd man out. smile

Came down to the Great Dorset Steam show and Thorn Falcon and really did not want to come back up here last night! Can't wait. CV writing and letting agency finding to occur this week biggrin

Now I don't expect much but does anyone know of a fashion / jewelry design company in the area? GF is one and will be looking for work. Thought I could earn some home made cake by having some suggestions biggrin

You should keep an eye out for anything going at RWE, it's a german company that owns nPower and has a growing Supply and Trading business in Windmill Hill Business Park, just off the M4 at Jcn 16 - so not really Swinedon wink

Good Luck with your relocation!
