Went with my mate down to deepest darkest Cornwall to spectate whilst he entered his MX5 into a little competitive time trial event, which uses proper timing equipment and everything. PS: In the video below the black MX5 is driven by him, but different driver when it spins. First time he had driven an MX5. biggrin Variety of other cars too were there - Scoob, Evo, various caterham type cars, lots of old minis, and a few hot hatches. smile

Yeah - the kart track is next door a bit. This is run on part of the abandoned airbase. Will be clearer once the video uploads.

Watched a few times saw cars leaving there on Sunday as we were riding back from Barnstable; isn't it part of the Westcountry Speed championship or something - runs together with some of the local hillclimbs?

I had no idea there was a disused airfield there. Looks very similar to a sprint day that the local motorsport club hold every year at the Chivenor airbase which is always good to watch. There was an obscenely quick Noble there this year which I believe is owned by a PHer.

Ive raced at StEval about a dozen times, and can recommend it 100%. Its a tight tecnical course with varying corners, hairpain and straights and is good for both competitors and spectators. Its run by www.newquayautoclub.co.uk and runs 5-6 times per year. The website has pics and videos of the sprint (you might find me somewhere), and its worth a visit if your down that way.

Sorry mate, I'm in Falmouth; just came back from the Exeter bike show via Barnstable for bit of a ride.

Where's Barnstable then? Is that near Barnstaple in North Devon?

That username rings a bell. Haven't met the guy just seen him doing his thing on track and his car around town a few times over the years.

Here it is from several years ago. Looks quite different now though.

Yes, that will be Kevin Jones, lots of mods done to that Noble, he has installed a low-high boost. From memory he's pushing close to 450-500bhp on full boost

As Lee says, its run by Newquay Auto Club. (PS, where were you this week Lee?) Its a great day out if your a Petrolhead, everything and abything races there, mini's, rally cars, Kit Cars, single seater cars, even a Jag XJ this week!

Next meeting there is the 26th of Sept.
Ive raced there for about 5yrs now and if your mate was no16 (i think), tell him to go abit faster so I dont catch him him next time!........... (just kidding, glad he had a great day)

As for the Noble M12, its a fantastic car, raced against it at Chivenor a cpl of times now. Could'nt quite beat it, but I know a Vauxhall powered bathtub that did! smilesmilesmile

Yeah, he was, and I think they should have given him a bit more of a headstart given you were driving a way faster machine. biggrin

I sat on the line waiting for aslong as i dared, biggrin Its very difficult for the starters to judge the times of new drivers the first couple of times out, and for safety reasons there's a limit to how much space they can give.....Its luck of the draw as to how the cars get abit mixed up in the starting queue, Its really not a problem, it doesnt happen too often and the driver who catches up get a re-run biggrin which is never disappointing.

Glad you all had a good day.

If you fancy it, then do it lads....
Nothing compares! If you think you have driven your car on the limit on road or trackdays, you hav'nt. Sprinting is a great form of motorsport, trying to get the perfect run is addictive.
Get yourself along to an event, talk to the drivers, you'll find everyone is so passonate you'll get all the advice and help you'll need.

Hi

Didnt make StEval last week, was too busy sunning myself on the calms seas of Torbay. (Ok, trying to make some cash), not sure if Ill make the next one either as im at a wedding in York (i'm working on excuses so you never know). Getting itchy feet again as its been nearly 3 weeks since the last sprint.

I have however cured my interest in rally co-driving..by stage 2 in a 400bhp 4x4 Cosworth Anglia, the sick bag was out. I'm sticking to driving!!

Cheers

Lee
