So, the Z4 has gone...

Looking to spend up to and around £8000 to at least keep some of the money I sold the car for, but happy to go higher for something else if it's worth it.

So far I have some really varied things on the list:

55 Plate Audi A6 (Any engine, but ideally a 2.0d or 3.2V6)
07 Plate Alfa GT 1.9d
56 Plate 318i
56 Plate Focus ST/Astra VXR/etc
07 Plate Lexus IS220d

We're leaning towards getting something like the A6 at the moment. What do people think?

Out of those I would go for the Alfa! Very very good engine and a stunning car! Wish I had bought one when I had the chance!

As you say a mixed lotnuts
Personally you need to know what you want from it first. Looking at the list my thoughts would be
to have a good look at the 1 series but with a better engine.

Trouble is, the 1 series with a remotely interesting engine (the 130i) is £12k on similar plates to the below. Better value than a Golf R32 though, and no doubt a much better car. I did think R32s would have dropped a lot more, but they haven't. Bearing in mind they were less than £17k new a while back, they're holding well!

I know, but as I know a few people here I thought it would be more fun for people to pick fun at my choices hehe

Went to look at the IS220d - I actually quite like the look of it. The Audi appeals though as Jen works for Audi so I could get stuff done cheap.

P.S. Dave, definitely a varied bunch of cars. Jen would prefer a 'premium brand' and thinks the VXR et al are too chavvy.

I liked your old VXR but you had loads of them and never got attached so I would think that you never liked it, at least the same as you did with the Z4.
Don't understand the A6 20td, 2tonne with 170bhpconfused you'd be bored stless.
120d and get it remapped wink

Well, the other option is the 3.2 V6 which is fairly quick and would still sound nice-ish. The trouble is I don't know if my next job will be miles away, so would be more leaning towards a diesel.

120d is so expensive though - In fact I think they cost more than the IS220d, which I think is nicer. 180bhp and 290lb/ft isn't too bad.

I knew someone with a 3.2 V6 in an A3 that was a lovely car! Not raw like an R32 more of a mini luxury cruiser! the engine should be very nice in the A6! The V6 A3 would be a good option too!

There are loads between 7 and 10k dependant on mileage??
They are both very different cars the Lexus is more of a sales rep car up and down the motorway without trouble but no fun, especially at nearly 9sec to sixtyeek the one series will be the more fun to drive. As I said though it's down to what type/ driving you want from it.

Ah yeah, sorry I meant for same age/mileage.

Going for a car I'm not really bothered about this time. It won't be used for any PH meets or runs out, so handling and power doesn't really matter that much.

lol you make me laugh, if power and handling don't matter then why did you mention how much power the lexus has or that the 3.2v6 would be fairly quick?? you need to decide what you want from the car first.

I had a IS220d for a year, absolutely superb car, cant recommend them highly enough (putting aside driving fun, of course!)

Get the right one (SE-L, I believe?) and they have more toys than you can shake a stick at

You can get those for £8k?! Bloody hell! I paid more than that for the Wolfsburg-mobile. smile

Of that list, I'd be most tempted by the Lexus.
