Hi folks,
to elaborate slightly....my lad has a burning urge to have a go at driving the car. He is too young to do it legally on a public road. Does anyone know of a decent size piece of land where he could have a bash yikes near to Bristol, Bradley Stoke to be precise.
Thanks in advance

Motorsport Events to Junior track driving at Keevil if that's any good. Quite expensive I think though.

The car park at the old Aust services is huge and often empty.

Sharpness Docks has a fair amount of empty space.

If you want (or need wink) to do things entirely legally then I think you're stuck with the 'young driver experience' companies. Both of the above would count as roads to which the public have access, wouldn't they, so I'd imagine you'd be breaking the law?

May be to far but there is a area near Weston Zoyland were I took my son before he was of a legal age. Think we paid £2 but if the weather is nice lots of minimotos and stuff out at the sametime, best if it is raining.

Any privately owned industrial estates nearby? Would get you out of the "public highway" issue.

The roads around Aztec West are pretty dead late at night, so might be an option. Alternatively, you could let him have a go in the Tesco carpark late on a Sunday night when they've shut down?

Beware guys - under The Road Traffic Act 1991 amended sections 1 to 3 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 enables prosecutions to be brought for causing death by dangerous driving, dangerous driving, careless and inconsiderate driving of a mechanically propelled vehicle in a public place off the highway. Other violations would include driving "not in accordance with a licence". A public place might include moorlands, common land or Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) and has been held by the courts to mean an area to which the public at large have access or that the public have express or implied permission to access from the Land Owner. Tescos etc are giving you implied permission to access their land. An over zealous plod could take that view and prosecute you and your son.

Hi Chaps,
Alls getting back to normal after a mad 3 years in silverback world, nice to see the old faces around.
Garfy, all well chum, no TVR anymore, but hey ho, it'll be back one day.

Yes, thanks for the help and indeed, the highway issues I'm aware of but it was more of a query if anyone had an idea of private land.

I'll probably whizz him off to a young driver thing, he's a bit of a mini me and nuts about driving so he'll love it.

See you all soon hopefully and thanks for replying

I'm sure he does Matt. The info was for other PHers who may want to take their kids out for a drive but stay completely legal
cheers
