Hi, has anyone got an OBD2 reader that I can borrow/rent. I need to clear a non vital fault code and I've bought 2 of these but both have had "Linking Errors" and would not work. Before I buy another one I would like to try one to see if it actually works. Any assistance appreciated, thanks

If you can get to me in Exmouth tomorrow, I would be happy to scan it with vagcom. smile

Obviously, this is more than just a fault code reader, but if you want the code gone, its the way to do it biggrin

How do I mail you? Nooob here.

Yeah, Monday daytime is fine. I work on Exmouth seafront but both my car and the laptop will be nearby. Between 1 and 2 is best as I am on lunch then.

I wish I had looked at your garage in your profile and realised this was for an Aston and not a VW-derived car. biggrin Sorry for misleading you but I didn't realise any other cars had the same OBD2 diagnostic ports as the VW group cars. smile

Thanks again for the offer Jason. Apologies from me in maybe misleading everyone. I thought the diagnostic plug was the same on all cars - perhaps the Aston isn't OBD2 compliant which may explain why the tester I bought gives a "Linking Error". Thanks again for your time and does anyone else out there have any ideas? The engine management light shows orange but the car is running fine - it has done this before and the local Aston garage couldn't find anything wrong but charged £70 !!!!!! to tell me this and clear the light. Not keen on shelling out another £70 just to be told there is no problem.

It might be just "OBD" or simply that there are multiple OBD / OBD2 fault readers out there but Aston Martin use a posh version which probably needs a different setup to your average reader? Is there an "Astoncom" like my vagcom?

Not sure about Aston, but Ferrari/Maserati have a different system to the 'normal' ODB2, called SD3.

Guessing Aston have done something similar?

Thanks Nic, the Aston system is called AMDS but apparently an OBD2 reader should work.

I've got an MSD Dashhawk 2 OBDB reader that covers all generic codes and provides some specialized functions for common cars.

Works fine on my Ingsignia and the Ultima

PM if req. I'm in Exeter
