In a few week's time it's the OH's birthday and she wants to go... camping rolleyes

So I figured I can tie a trip to Devon / Cornwall with something I like - a good hoon across Dartmoor or Exmoor from base camp here just up the A303. So can any SW PHers recommend A) a good route from the A303 to the coast and / or B) a decent campsite where I won't be ready to kill after 2 hours in a tent? shoot

Bonus points for a good route that actually goes to a good campsite!

So are you looking for the coast, or inland, not that I'm a camping buff, just to give people a pointer smile

Preferably coast - but I'm flexible.

"Devon and Cornwall" is a bit vague, both coast roads are ok though, through Dartmoor East to west is a lovely ribbon of tarmac but 40mph limit and livestock free to wander A386 North to South is ok but maybe not so good if you don't know where the overtaking points are.

If you want a long drive, hug the South coast (A35 from Dorchester) and go through Lyme Regis, Sidmouth, Kingsbridge, St Austell, Falmouth and Helston, ending up on The Lizard around Mullion

Nice scenery, some good bits of road but it'll take you most of the day!

If you go all the way down to St. Just, the B3309 to St. Ives is a fab road as long as you get no, or little, other traffic.

As for camping - I don't think they have invented a good campsite yet have they?

Driving on dartmoor can either leave you with a massive smile on your face, or wanting to rip your steering wheel off and throw it through the window of the old bd/caravan holding you up, or the sheep that's just wondered across your path.

The best one I've done is coming off at the ashburton on the A38, going up to Princetown. Then, go along to Mortenhampstead on the B3212, and then go through mortenhampstead and follow the same road all the way back to exeter.

But I'm sure there's more roads you can explore.
