Soda blasting is the way forward it wont damage the alloy underneath
frosts do a kit cheaper than you will pay anyone to do it

I might have already told you about this?

I done the one on my Merc Cosworth using my equiptment at work. It's not walnut shells, or glass beads, but a really fine aluminium oxide we use for glass frosting.
It will leave a slightly rough finish, which can either be brought back up to a shine with a polishing wheel, ready to accept paint, or go to the platers for nickle/chrome/annodising or copper plating.
If I can be of any help, pm me and I'll endeavour to do my best.

Thanks for the reply Dave, I don't remember that conversation but I am going senile. If I can't get it done for less than the £400 it would cost for the soda blaster + media + delivery + suitable compressor, I'll not bother. Vidals reply looks promising, I want to reduce the roughness of the original casting prior to polishing, I shall pm him.
Cheers,
Julian
