Chaps, for my 10th wedding anniversary my dear wife would like to go to Bath. We only want to stay one night, a Saturday and want a comfortable B+B with parking. Not necessarily in Bath but somewhere we can retire to after a day in the city. So, perhaps a country pub?

Any help gratefully received!

To really treat your wife I would thoroughly recommend Bath Spa Hotel. It has lots of parking, excellent rooms, lovely staff and great spa indoor/outdoor pool, sauna room etc. Try lastminute.com or phone up as some nights they will do stunning rates e.g. cheaper than Bath Travelodge!

However if you want B&B, Bathampton or Bathford are excellent areas near to Bath, but more quieter and more likely to have parking.

Whilst the Bath Spa is a wonderful idea, we would only be sleeping there. We wouldn't travel all the way to Bath to use a spa.

Ideally we want a country pub which has a decent menu (food and a bottle of vino for about £60) and a comfortable bed.

We can do the sightseeing/shopping during the day and then eat and have a drink in the evening.

The George, Norton St Philip?

It's only 15mins and 200years out of town, lovely place.

If you only wanted food , try the King's Ams at Monkton Farleigh

The George - looks perfect. Just what I was after and about the right money. Cheers for that!

Alternative - the Old House at Home which is about 20 mins from Bath, lovely pub with great food and brand new rooms.

Or if you prefer a B&B in central Bath, give my old friend Derek a buzz at Three Abbey Green

Another vote for the George. If there were a dictionary entry for the kind of pub you describe, it would have a picture of the George above it.

I'd have a good look at this place,

Heard good things about the food, location seems to fit criteria, rooms are good too.

Bit of a broken record as I always recommend this place but

http://www.the-carpenters-arms.co.uk/

is lovely. I used to stay there a lot - 2 or 3 nights a week when working in Bristol. Food is fantastic. The ribeye steak alone is responsible for my considerably enlarged waist over the course of the project.

Only thing to consider when you book is that some rooms have the bathrooms in the eaves and don't have a shower over the bath - not a problem if you do baths not showers but probably worth asking if you book...

Fully support this - great food and a regular destination for PH drive outs in the area. V quiet location with great scenery nearby.
