Hi all,

posted this in TV regional as I work round there but also needed to add it here JIC

It would appear my plate has been cloned!

furious

NIP has arrived from Met Police for a red light offence in Harrow just over a week ago at 815 in the morning

All well and good aside from the facts:

A) Never been to Harrow in my life (travel WSM J21 M5 to Reading M4 J10 - thats the furthest I go up the M4)

B) I was at work in Reading at the time of the alleged offence (always am from around 0700) and the car was in a (VERY) secure car park

I've written asking for photo's as the Met dont include a telephone number or email address and only offer the options on the form of

A) It was me guv, it was my car and I was driving

B) It was my car but it werent me driving, honest guv - ere's the name of the crim

Obviously neither A) or B) apply

Tried calling the Met info line but the plonker at the end of the line just kept saying to write in with the form, despite my insistance that a crime had quite obviously been commited and I wanted him to take details and circulate

Thames Valley police were much more helpful, but still have to write to the "Traffic Crime" unit.

So, if anyone happens to see some scrote in a car other than a Black E46 M3 with PH and GRRC stickers on it with the reg M333 MNS please PM me

Cheers all

Thats bad have you got any proof that you were at work at that time? maybe carpark CCTV or security system card booking in.

Lets hope the cloner hasn't got your stickers on so ur car can be ID'd as different. It might not even be an M3 the cloned car maybe just a normal 3 series then it would be easier to ID the car as not being your car to go through the red light.

I'd get a peronalised plate put on your car now as you might start getting lots of things through the post even a know at the door cause the cloned car was used in a robbery or petrol theft etc

i'd suspect that a prefix M plate is a private plate on an e46

Yup

The plate is personalised

Luckily as said, I work in a secure environment so I have logs of me clocking in and out round the various bits of the building, plus CCTV and photos of me coming in the main entrance and the car in the car park

Maybe transfer your plate to a retention certificate for a period. Yes it will cost a few quid but the chances are that the user of your cloned plate will be getting up to some serious no good and the likelihood of the long arm catching up with him will be much better when the ANPR refers back to number that is not in use. Sadly I suspect the recent incident won't be the last you will be hearing of this.

Yup,

fully expect to be getting many speed/light/tax/etc tickets, but no way am I putting that on retention

Just waiting for the photo at the mo, and if its a obviously different vehicle the Met Traffic Crime (read scamera) unit will be getting a rocket up their arse

LOL

Luckily, not

However, I think it may be what happens when you post pics of your car with the plate showing

Two other possibilities.....

1. They have the wrong number i.e. it's not your plate but something similar.
2. You drive through Reading a lot which is home to many scumbags, any one of whom could of cloned your plates.

Seems odd that someone would choose to clone what's a fairly distinctive plate, however could have happened. As long as you've reported it, it should't cause major problems. Might be worth taking some witnessed photographs of your car now, so you can point out the stickerage/distinctive points if anything else happens.

As predicted, BiB got it wrong - i asked for photo evidence and the car was a silver, e90 3x(not an M and wrong shape) with the reg m333 Nns - the photo was sent with a letter again stating "black m3 m333 Mns"

so I've sent an arsey letter requesting postage costs, my time costs and a written apology!

Good news, I wonder how many other people get ripped off like this and just pay the fine and never request the photo?

Needless to say I havent heard anything in the way of an apology as yet and I'm not happy, :nothappylittleface: I've already told my Mum. Best for them if I get one within the next week, otherwise I'm going to stamp my feet, scream a bit and then I'm taking it higher, probably to the 2nd floor, where I shall be shaking my fist out of the window!!!!!
Sorry AA, couldn't help myself silly
