Hi all, I am thinking of getting a new car. The original idea was to go for a ZR160 but after thinking about it I might go for a Leon Cupra or a Octavia vRS. Now here comes the favour...

Would anybody in the Dorset/Hampshire area mind taking me out in their car to show me what it is like power and handling wise? So I can make a prompt-to decision.

Pint for anyone who can help smile.

Should mention I am looking at the MK1 versions.

A ZR160 is good to drive and quite nippy. I had a 1.8vvc, two head gaskets later it had to go. Also was the 'supposedly' good uprated gasket.

Think I want to stay away from French cars TBH I don't like the looks and generally don't like the drive.

Obviously i dont know what your budget is but you an pick up decent pre-face lift ST's (06-07 plate) from £9500/10k

Not sure about the Cupra R though, but id say they would be about the same price.

HTH and good luck bud.

I have not driven a Cupra but have driven a couple of MK1 octavia VRs (estate and hatch), I nearly bought one but at the time a 51 plate was just over £10k..

..I just couldn't bring myself to spend £10k on a used Skoda

I know they are good cars now (my otherhalfs father has a Mk1 Octavia 1.9 TDI estate) the interior is cheap and nasty..everything has a flimsy feel to it BUT it has never let him down and they have done a lot of miles in it smile

don't get me wrong, I'm NOT Skoda bashing just saying it as I find it smile

I am on the Hampshire/Wiltshire border & would gladly take you out in my 2003 Leon Cupra if you can't get anyonelse more local. Coming from a Z3M Roadster & 328CI Coupe, i was really suprised just how capable the Leon was/is.
