I'm looking for peoples opinions on what car they would get next so that I don't go and buy something only to later go "bugger I wish I'd got one of those", the budget is 15k although for something really special I may push the boat out and get finance/save up for a bit longer in the 20k area.

It will be used only as a second car so it doesn't need to be comfortable. The one requirement is that its great fun to drive.

So what would you buy?

I'd go for something like a tuscan S or a nice e46 m3 for that budget.

You could get a pretty good Cobra replica for that sort of money if that's your bag.

Alternatively a Boxster or Elise/Exige.

If you want to spend £15,000 you're welcome to buy my Phoenix, but it's only worth about £6,500 and I don't have any change!!

I think given the 2nd car idea the E46 M3, whilst a superb car ( - me? biased?) is out - Tuscans a good idea

As I placed on the previous thread -

Caterham

or

Exige S2 (just in the budget!)

I'd have to agree with AngryApples... Lotus Exige S2 or a Caterham. You might also consider the (slightly) more practical option of an Elise. Buying a car like this will also have the added benefit of low depreciation.

Spend a bit more and get a Z4 Coupe. I'd pick 3.0si (obviously) as it's quick enough for you, looks fantastic, rare, and cheap to service/tax/insure when compared to the M.

That or if you're ready to move right now, there is a FANTASTIC 09 plate Elise S for only £19k on AutoTrader at the moment! I want someone to buy it before I do! biggrin

Clearly I may be biased, but you'd get a sorted Griff for that and a few bob left over for a few services/mods. No better fun.

Caterham, Exige or Noble.

For speed and handling, those would be the obvious choice, for me, and would be perfect for trackdays. aswell.

Or maybe an earlier Elise and do the supercharger and Honda engine conversion?

buy this then save up another 6k and I will fit a supercharger for you.
this will give you a genuine 200 mph supercar 0-60 in under 4 seconds 0-120 in 12 seconds
with the handling to match theres a reason the c5 corvette won the gt1 class at le mans 5 years in a row
standard its still very capable 0-60 in 4.7 seconds with a top speed of 186 mph and it will cruise at 90 at 30 mpg I genuinly cant think of a better "blue collar supercar" for your cash
Oh and you can import one from the states for around 11k
