Hi we're coming down for the Bristol italian car show in a couple of weeks & are booked in at the doubletree Hilton.

Unfortunatly the restaurant has a function on the Friday night so we're looking for somewhere good to eat & not too far to drive.

Any help will be greatfully received.

Depends on what you are after........

The Ship and Castle pub in main Congresbury is good - recently done up and very nice inside

High Street
Congresbury, Bristol, Avon BS49 5JA
01934 833 535

Turn left out of the Hilton, (drive past the Garden centre on your left) right at the lights and the pub is sat on the next set of lights you come across, right by the river.

The above is a little pricey, food last time I went was quite good, but did seem like you paid more for the atmos than the food which was a little hit and miss

Or.............

Little Harp, Clevedon
Elton Road, Clevedon, BS21 7RH
01275 343739

Turn right out of the Hilton and drive through Yatton (the next Village), follow the road a mile or so until you go over the Motorway bridge and into Clevedon - follow the signs for the sea front and look for the Little Harp Inn, approx half way down, near to the tennis courts and bowling green

Very good food (variety), good prices and beer

(recommend the cold meat, camembert and pickles platter!)

Thanks for those two.
We do tend to plan our trips around food, biggrin that's why we're going to San Carlo for lunch on Saturday.

San Carlo is great - you'll love that place

Jane and I are going there in the eve, otherwise would have joined the rest of you at lunch-see you at the slug!

Part of the Hilton contains The Club (Healthclub) which has a Bar/Restaurant upstairs and the food there is very nice. We are Club members and eat there quite a bit.

Thanks for that Barry, we plan on eating there on the Saturday night after we've lunched at San Carlo.
So we're looking to go somewhere else on the Friday, well probably go to the Ship & Castle, that pie looks good with the black pudding mash. yum

As I said we plan trips around food. biggrin

Just incase you haven't made your mind up yet these two are my personal choices for best eating in the area:

Sousta Greek Taverna - Weston Road, Congresbury, BS49 5EB

The New Inn, 86 West Town Road, Backwell, Bristol, Avon BS48 3BE

Sousta is just excellent, reeally nice family feeld, good portion sizes, lots of choice and the lamb shank is brilliant.

The New Inn has fairly recently been reopened with new management etc and a really good chef who's worked at some top places in Bristol. Slightly more expensive as it's a bit of a Gastropub but it's really very good food with top local/fresh ingredients. smile
