Hi All,
I was having a bit of a read here last night and like the look of some of the local meets you guys have, but I have a quick question and please don't be offended by it.
Were not the richest couple your ever likely to come across and our petrolhead requirments need to be fed on modest means. Neither of our cars are worth a great deal of money, heres a link to my first post earlier this morning, http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... and I'm wondering if we were to attend meets are we likely to fit in. I'm a very hands-on kind of chap. I do all my own repairs and have done since I was a mere boy when, too be honest, I couldn't afford it to be any different. I'm a design engineer as a day job, but a number of the staff see me as the car know-it-all. I could talk clutches, cams and suspension all day long.
However, I have attended clubs in the past where the car seemed to take second placeand its more about your property portfolio and how many times you were going on holiday this year. Too be honest, this isn't really my thing and I would rather stay at home than attend this type of thing.
I can see from the attendence list of some of the local members that some of the machinery is very valuable and make me feel a little insignificant. What I'm hoping is although it might be exotic cars all round you still like talking about the "good stuff". What do you think?

Sounds similar to me, got sod all money but a love for petrol powered things and do all the work myself to feed the habit.

I would say you'd fit in fine but I've never been to a PH meet but I'll be going to Cheddar Gorge with this lot at the weekend and if I manage to fit in with a diesel Passat then with your motors you'll be fine!

Don't worry you'll fit in perfectly with us lot. We have a wide selection of cars that pop along to the various meets and tbh the conversation is normally one of three things, cars, cleaning cars(guilty my lord) or just plain
piss taking.

So just put your name down to one of the meets and come and say hellowavey

Hi SG,

and welcome!

You will find that at our meets there is a real mix of people - I'd like to think that what you drive is no barrier whatsoever - itsmore about your enthusiasm for all things car (and bike) related

I have always found the various people I have met very welcoming and a great bunch

We have people that are like yourself (hands on) and people like me that love cars, love driving them but have about as much practical sense as.............

BTW, Its very far from "exotic cars all round" - look at the Cheddar list !

Cheers Guys,
Were a bit low on cars at the moment. Only have two workhorses on the road a the minute (the focus and the 106). The 205 has it's MOT on Saturday morning and if all goes well I might talk her indoors up around Cheddar for the cars first run out of the year. My MR2 has a bit to go yet (gearbox off at the minute, no Mot etc.) and I have the 106 to MOT next before the middle of May. Then I can get on with my toy s its off out to the 'ring again in July and its got to be all done and sorted by then.

Spudgun - you will be as welcome as any other PHer, whether you have a Lamborghini Miura or a push bike.

It's the love of cars (or bikes) that matters. thumbup

Or a Hyundai Getz! biggrin

I can only dream of owning a 'decent' car, but my lil Nod Nod has been along to a meet or 2 and it proudly shows off 2 PH stickers...although I'm still waiting for my first offical spotted smile

Come along and join us...if you dont like us, you've not lost anything, but be warned...it's addictive on here, oh and being a little nuts helps hehe

Just bring the focus Spud........you can just park next to Dave and you won't be able to tell the differance between the two! hehe

These are a great bunch of guys, I guarantee you'll enjoy yourself and will soon get addicted. I got Dave addicted and he's on here more than me now!

Cheers you boys, you're helping to put me in the picture. I have been involved with a few MR2 clubs but the other half does get a bit ticked off when during the summer show/meet season when it just seems to be the MR2 that gets all the days out. A local generic motoring club will help re-dress the balance a bit.

The variety in the Cheddar list is what makes PH for me. This is a great place to be.

Yes, piss-taking is probably the most important part of 'PHing' - which I now declare is a verb.

Come along - I did exactly that at the first Cheddar meet last year and i'm now completely hooked - and trust me my lil car is definitely not a show-stopper, but i love it (when it works) Its definitely about the people and the banter - Hope to see you both there smile
