As new members of the Weston Motor Club we went to the auto test today. Had a brilliant morning and was doing reasonably well......

When the clutch and big ends gave up, so it's engine out timefrown
Hopefully if we can get the parts we'll be back on the road in a couple of weeks.

have to say I am well and truly hooked and for an elderly gal she is pretty nimble and I was really getting into it - smokin

Chris took the ultima, don't have any pics as we forgot cameras in our eagerness to participate! Entertainment value was high biggrin

Do you need some form of competition licence to take part? Or is it just a case of if you've got a car and a driving licence you can take part?

Good effort, nice to see you making the most of the new toy

As a member of the club I don't need to have a comp licence for club run auto tests - not sure the intricacies of it but it's to do with the clubs own membership of MSA.

Normally you'd need a comp licence smile

Autotests run on closed to club or clubsport permits do not require competition licences. I used to autotest a standard Hillman Imp, which was also my every day transport - obviously it wasn't very good as breaking the rear end loose on a handbrake turn was difficult with the weight all at the back and once it was loose it tended to have a mind of its own hehe.

One thing to be aware of on autotests is oil sloshing away from the oil pump pickup during rapid changes of direction - at least make sure the oil is topped up before you start.

On 25th July Bristol MC have an autosolo on Weston airfield - that's like an autotest but forwards only with much longer and more open tests, so use of second gear is possible (!).
