I'm moving to Truro later this year for uni and have only been on one brief visit. Does anyone here live there or know the area well? What's it like and what is there to do to occupy two years of my life? I love the countryside and being in a rural area but it seems like the end of the earth!
Great city. Close enough to both of Cornwall's coasts to enjoy al the beaches the county has to offer.
Traffic is a pain, especially in the summer, but there's a good mix of shops and plenty of places to drink coffee. One of the most sought after locations in the south west. Not sure on the night life though.

Lived in Penryn (ie where the Tremough Uni Campus is) all my life, though am in Bath at uni now.
I would say life in Cornwall is pretty relaxed - I'm sure you can find something to occupy yourself with. Great for Sailing on the south coast, and surf related stuff on the north. I am trying to get my driving test sorted asap at the start of the summer, as to make the most of the are you need to be mobile, or want to spend hours on buses...
Nightlife is not great-few places in Truro, few in Falmouth, don't expect anything special. I would't say Bath is an better in that respect... Useless for motorsport, unless you like banger racing.

I come from Penzance and considered Truro a sprawling metropolis (okay, maybe not quite..) for the first 18 years of my life. I still love going to Truro, nice atmosphere, decent places to eat and drink etc. Okay, it's not paced with the best bars and nightclubs in the world but to be honest they're what you make of 'em - if you make good friends and go out all the time you'll get to know all the regulars and have a great time.
Cheers,
Rob

I'm a couple of miles out of the 'city'. 2 years - like countryside - try walking the coastal path :-)If you need any help, such as house rental details from local paper etc... drop me a line

See [url]this thread| might be a bit far but everything is from Truro (apart from great scenery, beaches and a few good roads). Failing that, a drive along the B3275 (turn left at the Mercedes garage after Tresillian on the St Austell road), nice driving road but might be a bit slippy after this week!
There's a few from Plymouth going on a track day on 4 December in S Wales if you fancy it too.

Still looking for a driver? Sorry I can't help, just spent all my cash on a new car.OP - Cornwall's a bit quiet this time of year as far as motorsport is concerned. However, it's the best time of year to take advantage of clear coastlines if you're into the occasional walk/mountain bike ride & empty pubs for a cup of coffee/tea to warm up after. Great chill out time of year if you can stand the weather.
I'm in Truro, near the Richard Lander monument (or as a friend of mine refers to it, 'Dickie's massive erection').
Great city, some good pubs and bars (One-Eyed Cat and Mannings are nice and seem to be free of the sort who like to go out for a fight with the odd drink in between), Skinners Brewery (brewery nights are great - all the beer you can drink in 3 hours for £10), and you're centrally located for just about everything in Cornwall.
Enjoy your stay
