Can anybody recommend an hotel that's convenient for both mountainbiking in the Quantocks and shopping/cinema in Bath (plus Cheddar Gorge etc.)? MrsAR and I have scored five nights without the kids at the end of March.

Can't justify much more than £150 per night. Would like some anonymity and privacy whistle so don't want somewhere with three rooms run by a little old spinster. A swimming pool & jacussi would be nice, as would a decent shower/bath in the room. I've looked at places in Bath centre, but parking seems to be a problem, especially since we'll have two mountainbikes in the car.

Hope I'm not asking too much for an out-of-town hotel.

Anybody got any ideas please? ears

The Bath Spa hotel in the city has decent parking.

Thanks. Unfortunately the cost is prohibitive for that one.

We use the Francis, on Queen's Square, for work overnights.

Thanks for the follow-up replies. I think we'll end up booking a place in Bath centre anyway, because I phoned the local authority who told me that we can park in a (relatively) secure city-centre car park for £13 per 24 hours. Added to the cost of the hotel that's not too bad.

Following alternative ideas, I considered Oxford as the destination but parking in Oxford is £20+ per 24 hours. Bath seems cheap by comparison...

The Quantocks and Bath are a fair distance apart - didn't you mean The Mendips?

Umm... I don't think I did. But I'll have a look at the map and see. Thanks for the tip.

In the end I booked a SACO apartment in the centre of Bath.

If you were looking for something of that ilk around the quantocks, does anyone have any suggestions?
