Given that Santa Pod is so far away and there are lots of disused airfields in the SW, would anyone be interested in a similar facility/event that was a bit more accessible?

street nights was good but it got stopped due to locals complaining about noise, even though they still have banger racing and rallys there every month. i would be up for any new events.

And the complete idiots who used to race through the villages, after a days racing. It got stopped in the end as they organiser couldnt get sponsors due to an impending noise nuisance case which resulted in there noly being allowed 3 days of motorsport up there a year. Shame as it was a great event, very laid back and it never seemed to matter what you were racing.

yes very assuming its on tarmac instead of concrete
smeatharpe wasn't great as I could spin the wheels the entire length of the track!

Yes, I'd be there; even Shakey county is hardly on the doorstep when your into the far west. There are still the remains of quite a few airfields in the SW, Chivenor sees nothing more than air/sea rescue and gliders, and the N.Devon motor club has done sprints there, but under MSA regs.

ChimTVR,- The traction issue with concrete I suspect is more to do with the poor condition of the surface; in the U S many dragstrips have concrete start pads and these strips return consistently better times, both 60ft and 1/4, once seasoned

Perhaps you are right martyn thinking about it on a prepped drag strip in reality you are launching on the rubber thats been laid down in the past rather than the tarmac itself. Also Smeatharpes surface was pretty tired and dusty but no matter how big a burnout I did I just could not get away in a reasonable time!

What would be the crowd this would attract?

Any idea of numbers from previous events? What did people pay?

I'm looking to start something....

It was £20 per driver at Smeatharpe for unlimited runs, with, I think, £5 entrance per car to the grounds.

They had a show and shine, timing portacabin and an annoying loud of crap music being pumped out between runs.

I love Smetharpe. Only challenge, 6 second run then wait 1 1/2 hours for the next

It was like that the first time we went, but the second time was in a November and there were less people, thus faster turn-around.

Are you coming to the clay pigeon and quad biking on the 27th?

What gets me is the people who complain, you buy a house near a race track and an airfield and complain about the noise! what do you expect a quiet hurcules landing!!! shame.
