Good afternoon Pistonheaders,

Have you bought or sold a house recently, or are you a property professional such as an Estate Agent, Surveyor or Provide any part of the HIP, etc? If so I would love your help.

I am currently studying at the University of Plymouth and I am doing my final year dissertation on Home Information Packs. I am looking into how HIPs help (or otherwise) the buying process and I am looking to interview (should be quite short) anyone who is/has been involved in the buying/selling process from the Public and Professional point of view.
I am basing my study in the South West, Mainly the Plymouth area and East Cornwall, though I may increase my area. The main focus is the recent changes and additions.
I hope some of you would be able to help, or know of someone who may be able to help.

Cheers, Matt.

Good afternoon Pistonheaders,

HIPs help (or otherwise) the buying process
There arnt many buyers that request to see the hip, thoses that do look blankly at the coloured bar chart & wonder what its all about.

How does it help the process? It doesnt & it costs the vendors £350ish. Does it help the government with their EU home effeciency target gubbins? Yes, & costs them nothing.

Its nothing to do with helping the house buying process or making it quicker. Infact its stopped alot of potential vendors trying the market (as it used to cost nothing to try) then selling & moving.

As a mortgage chappie I've not seen any benefit in HIP's what so ever. If you think I can help with your studies feel free to email me anytime mate. I work closely with 3 independent estate agents in Bristol so I can put you in touch with them if you want their thoughts.

I'd agree with the majority of that Garry... when I was looking for my new place I did always look at the HIP / EPC, but it had zero bearing on my decision of which house to buy.
The EPC especially is a joke, borrow a pal's energy efficient (but useless) lightbulbs for an instant increase in score!!

No one who came to look at my house queried anything on the HIP and the eventual buyer didn't even know what the numbers meant.

That is kind of my thoughts! but as a student I need to be impartial as to how crappy HIPs are wink What you have said is the sort of thing I am looking for and If it is OK with you I may get in contact.

Cheers Splodge.
