Just gone through the insurance quotes, and my insurance goes up £275 per year for the next 5 years... Unfortunately that'll just be too much to stomach, so I'm going to have to leave the expensive cars for a bit and go to something cheaper.

Gutted, but I guess that's just the way it goes.

That and increasing road tax, fuel prices, etc. Buying, owning and driving cars just will not be fun any more. Barstewards! Will just have to think of other ways to get our kicks!!

Sorry, I don't exactly see that as a killer given what most people seem to be willing to drop (implicitly) in terms of depreciation. It's a one-off, fixed cost, and frankly not that much against a 2-3 tanks of fuel.

Put it this way - insurance has never stopped me from driving what I want. OTOH, burning through the same over a week or so would be damn good fun.

Drive a boringmobile - or just take the train to work if you need to justify the uplift.

Don't really understand what you're saying. How do you know it will go up £275 per year for the next 5 years? Even so, compared to your fuel costs alone, its hardly a big deal, is it? Mate of mine won't buy a 2002 Discovery because the tax is £150 higher than older ones. Which is about one and a half tanks of diesel.

That's only £22.91 a month.. that's like a quarter of a tank of fuel not exactly a bank breaker.

As per miniman's question, how do you know it's going up X amount for the next 5 years?

shout Don't let them insurance fkers win Iain smash. Get another FAST car today without delay smokin.

Since my head-on collision in the MR2, which was not my fault, I have learnt that this will push my premiums up for the TVR insurance furious, so I intend to bill the third party insurer of the increase in my premiums shoot.

Get a Kit car! Westfield/Caterham etc cheap as chips to insure.Get it on the track aswell.Buy a bargain barge and insure it TPF+T for the mundane stuff.
You can have just as much fun in a cheap ,old fast smoker ( If not more)than in your modern cars with all the fancy useless gadgets, cheaper insurance, just as quick 99% of the time etc etc so I wouldn't get too upset at not being able to drive newer stuff.
Get a modern classic.

I guess some people view it differently, but it's the principal that I'm now going to be paying an additional c.30% on top of what is already expensive insurance, and an expensive car to run in the first place.

How the hell could it have gone up 30% for a non-fault claim?? That seems a very large increase for them not paying
fk all out. Not being funny but you did say non-fault on the insurance form??

Will that actually work?
I have run through quotes for the Audi today and having the non-fault claim on my co car, coupled with mrs1rolls 1yr restricted licence puts it up from £500 to £850, which is more than I have ever paid for insurance, even aged 18. With the little one, and mrs1roll unlikely to return to work I simply can't justify it.
If I can get the accident management co to pursue it for me it might make it more bearable...

Am I missing some part of the story here?
Iain, did something happen to the Z4?

Yeah I had it reversed in to the other week!

Dave, yep, I've put non fault in there, and Miniman, I've done the quotes on confused.com, and the only one that will insure me for less than my current insurer want £3000 excess!

I've done the quotes on confused.com,
Thats where you've gone wrong!! Pick the phone up and ring some insurers that specialise in performance cars.

rofl

I quoted on them last year, shocking the cheapest with the same cover as i manged to end up with was 2.5x what i actually paid. Ignore try Flux or Aplan as brokers they may very well get you sorted.

You need to talk to a proper broker, like Manning, A-Plan, Flux etc. There's a good selection on this wiki:

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

To give you an idea, on my Chimaera, Confused is quoting me from £550 to £1580 on the basis of 7 years NCB. With no NCB it ranges from £670 to £2900. Add in an SP30 and its £900 to £2700.

I am paying £370 through Manning on a policy that does not require NCB and includes my SP30.

Don't give up on the fast cars just yet!

Give Admiral a try as well, they don't use the compare sites anymore so they won't come up in those searches. I've found them to be very good, definitely worth a look, especially if it means you can still drive the cars you love.

Direct Line didn't increase my premium for having a non-fault claim, you could try them.

Or just stop whinging and get on the blower and get a decent quote from any of the multitude of insurers.

Another vote for Aplan.
