As a Bristol season ticket holder who had very little to smile about last season, and TBH was pessimistic about this season, I am quite chuffed as to how Paul Hull has formed a strong side that is looking well placed for a (very) high finish this year.
Great game, good atmosphere and passionate and friendly Pirates supporters today.
Another cracking game today to keep the pressure on Exeter tomorrow - it looks ever more likely that Bristol and Exeter will play each other in the play-offs later in the season, and the fittest side to take the spoils.
Just pondering the Leeds v Bath game on Saturday. Could it be that one West Country side (hopefully Bris!) will replace another in the Premiership next season?

The West Country needs a Premiership side, but can who ever makes it, afford it? Chiefs balance sheet already makes for interesting reading, and Bristol know how expensive it can be, or do they take the money and run. The four play-offs will be very interesting, we are having the same thing in our league. But how many teams look to make sure they make the top four, then rest their players, or should it be top of the league is the winner. For me I'm for the play-offs.
Heres to some great rugby to be seen in the South West

Another loss. Three on the bounce............Having watched the Plymouth and Bristol games not completely surprised that London Welsh turned us over. On current form best to hope for a final against Bristol and manage to get through with a little luck! Bit different thinking to 3 weeks ago!
From the north of the region, I enter 2010 with a bigger smile on my face than yesterday!
I am only disappointed with the play-off situation, surely the most consistent side (be it Exeter or Bris) over the season should get promoted. It is still possible that a couple of weak performances by the top sides may see a middle ranking team win the play-offs. Does anybody know what happens if a team with facilities deemed indequate for the Premiership wins the play-offs? A team MUST get promoted - to replace the relegated side from the Premiership, but how is this decided?

It boils down to bums on seats. You turn the last 3 games of the season into stadium fillers. For our league it comes down to lack of teams and reshuffling of the leagues above. Agree the play-off is a lottery and for those at the top it must be a bit of a bitter pill. But strictly from a viewing perspective the play-off is more exciting, even if the rugby-ping-pong isn’t.

Its better than ring-fencing the premiership
Agreed, there's got to be some movement between the leagues. As far as I can recall, it's only ground regs for the original Premiership sides who haven't been out of the top flight that are still "ring fenced". There's only 4 such sides left (inc Bath). I've been a Bath supporter for more than 30 years. I have never been so anxious about results as I have this season now we're at the wrong end of the table. Hello Appleman!
It's not just Bristol rugby that's on a high at the moment, it may not have escaped your notice that your local team in SW1 (W) is not doing too badly at present, and they're playing a nearby village side on 30 January in a local derby; bragging rights, league points and more are up for grabs...
