Castle Combe Racing School
Discussion
Fellow SW Ph'ers,
Does anyone fancy a day at the Castle Combe Racing School? www.castlecomberacingschool.co.uk
I have been giving this some thought for a while as I would really like to get behind the wheel of a single seater and thought that there might be a few like minded souls...I know they are rev limited, expensive and track time is nothing in comparison to a regular track day but, well, erm, the FFords do look very nice!
They offer two single seater courses details as follows;
Race Car Standard
Briefing
2 Passenger Instruction laps in Ford Focus
3 Driving Analysis laps in Ford Focus
6 laps in Formula Ford racing car
Debriefing session
Souvenir Certificate
Personal Accident Insurance
£145 including VAT
Race Car Advanced Check List
Briefing
2 Passenger Instruction laps in Ford Focus
3 Driving Analysis laps in Ford Focus
6 laps in Formula Ford racing car
4 laps Advance one to one tuition in Ford Focus
6 laps Advance Stage in Formula Ford racing car
2 Race Demonstration laps
Debriefing session
Souvenir Certificate
Personal Accident Insurance
£245 including VAT

I'm very interested in doing their skid pan training (Want to take the wife along too). I know they do group rates, but I've lost the brochure. If people are interested, I'm happy to organise it. I'll make some enquiries and put up a new thread.
I have to say I'm not particularly bothered about the single seater day, mostly for the reasons others have outlined.

Why bother using their cars when we've got our own. Track days are the answer.I'm sure castle coombe do them for all marques. Someone ought to check it out.zz...

The problem at Castle Combe is that they have severe restrictions on the number of events, and duration of events, that they can do. It's all, IIRC, to do with planning permission based on the noise generated, exasperated by the fact that the track is very close to the "chocolate box" village.
That said, it's an excellent track and they do run private track days. Last one I went on was organised on a non-profit basis and it cost £95 for a full day with only about 30 cars participating.
The Mini action day is pretty good, but I've heard that a lot of the other "1 make" days are bordering on lethal with lunatics in RS Fords etc. 6 abreast coming down into Camp and Quarry.
I've got a Skid Pan voucher to use up sometime soon... as has my brother. If anyone else wants to make a PH day of it, I'd be glad to co-ordinate as I'm literally 10 minutes from the track.

And Quarry is a bloody scary corner when you come over the crest at 3 figures and change to realise you should have been braking some time back.......
Been there. Seen several cars on trackdays towed out of the tyres......
Approach Corner, go over crest and wait for car to settle before braking hard aiming for the traffic light in a straight line, where track splits (tarmac split in middle of track) turn in to apex...
Simple corner really, the problems occur by trying to turn in too early.
