Hi,

off to the last day of the Xmas markets in Bath this afternoon, then meeting my brother and his O/H for a meal (they have only recently moved there)

So, we are eating early (6'ish) and the current plan is Jamie's

If we dont manage to get in there, any recommendations for somewhere nice bu quite casual

(e.g: gastro pub and above)

Cheers all

Try Fiorellis on Gay St - then you can tell me what it's like, the menu looks great and the reviews I've read online have been very positive.

Looks a bit boderline on the casual requirement?

(this more for the bro than me, he's a very casual guy!, dont want him to feel unfortable)

But thanks, might run it past him as the menu does indeed look good

Any other suggestions?

http://www.greenparkbrasserie.com/

Nice food, atmosphere, not too dear, and they usually have a musician or three playing away in the corner while you eat. I would book the table though.

The Raven. Mmmm, pie.
It is a pub though, not a fancy restaurant place.

We'll be in a pub this evening no doubt...

Jamie's was indeed full with people Q'ing outside

Fortunately I'm not the kind of tt that thinks any Restaurant is worth Q'ing for when they cant be arsed to take bookings, so as it was close by we ended up at:

Del,

good call mate - good service, nice atmos, excellent steak, wine and pasta (though the alleged home made ice cream was a little naff)

Cheers!

Pleased to hear that it's good, I plan on taking the extended family there for a meal around Christmastime.

I think you made a good call. People that I know have been to Jamie's in Bath have said it wasn't that great.

I went there for an early evening dinner a couple of weeks after it opened and I wasn't hugely impressed.
It was nice and the prices were reasonable, but I think maybe the culture of celebrity had lead me to expect something better than it actually was.
I wouldn't rush back put it that way!

The last really nice place I ate at in the South West was Beechfield House on the outskirts of Melksham - very very nice.

Me too, I've been driving past the place for years and finally decided to go there and check it out, wish I hadn't waited so long.
The food was excellent and the service top notch. I would definately return there.

We're lucky really, there are some very nice places to eat in the area surrounding Melksham, I used to work in the trade, so I've sampled most over the years!

I refuse point blank to visit Jamie's. I've been past it when its been very quiet inside and seen people standing outside waiting for a table, clipboard nazi keeping them company. Balls to that.

Seconded. Pieminister pies no less & very, very nice. A regular 'drop-in' zone whilst Mrs HH does her shopping smile

Other faves of mine are the Firehouse Rotisery and The Thai Balcony.

Nom, nom, nom smile

Now remind me is it the Bengal Brasserie in the Sainsburys petrol station building?

That place is superb if it is.

Pria as I remember is great value. Caters for students, so none of the decor, just wipe clean tables, yet great food at a fraction..

King William - a little bit out of town and nothing special inside but superb food at reasonable prices, murder to park though. Garrik's Head owned by the same people and is alos very good. Fish place in Green Street is not bad, although teh fixed price lunch menu is a little mean (portions).

When I worked in publishing I got to eat nearly everywhere in Bath and its a pretty good place for food, there are plenty of 'chains' where you know what you'll get and a good few independants, some really good. If you are looking for a £10-20 for main course style menu there is a lot of choice.

When I am paying it's the big breakfast at the Jazz Cafe!

Obviously this post is far too late!!!
