Can't you drop it down on a jack and lift the car over it? Did it that way with my Mk1 Golf GTi.

Well I did think that but it'll be easier to lower the new one into the bay to hook up the gearbox etc smile

Might have to make a big a frame and winch with chains.

I'm sure you can rent them but no idea where from :S

Just a guess, but HSS Hire etc. might have this sort of thing?

You MIGHT find that they're actually a bloomin' sight cheaper to buy new on ebay than to hire for a few days, you could always stick it back ebay on afterwards.

Failing that, a friendly local garage?

yes

IIRC you can hire them for around £35 per day.

Just be wary that the further you extend the arm, the less you can raise in weight.
So it may state it can lift 75kgs, but in reality, if you have to clear a large slam panel, it may be reduced to 50kgs or less.

Probably best going for over kill than having the hoist give up & you end up watching the engine slowly lower itself onto the bodywork. Not that I've ever done anything like that before paperbag

Thanks for all your help guys smile. They're pretty expensive to rent (+ buy) and I don't see myself needing it for more than a week really.

I'm in Trowbridge, Wilshire but have a (working, for once!) van and am willing to travel smile.

Cheers Dave smile
