Hi guys. Need to pick up a car from Lake District, been quoted £1 / mile by transport company which would be £500 / £600.

Have access to a car trailer, but not having a tow bar on my motor thought it would be easy to just hire a transit or 4x4 with tow bar, but all the hire firms I have contacted will not hire out this to a private person.

Hoping to save some money by collecting it myself.

Anybody suggest where I can hire suitable truck or vehical with tow bar.

Many thanks

Andy

Can't help with the hiring, but I recently had a car towed by a local guy in Bristol. If you get stuck and need his number, I'll happily PM his details over.

Not sure how he'll compare price wise, but it's just him and his truck, so he can keep costs down.

Did you sort it out in the end? Can borrow my van if you get insured on it and pay for diesel (and don't wreck it)

Managed to sort it with Tollgate Hanham, everyone else was making it a big deal to hire a vehical with tow bar.

Helping a mate out, his Megan broke cam belt while in Lake District and he was taken to local garage, cannot believe they have spent seven weeks messing him about, only to be told engine beyond repair - thats £200 what shall we do with the car.

Thanks for your help guys -

Andy
