Pro-tests and stuff likely to disrupt Bristol 12-20 Sep.
Discussion
Avon and Somerset Police say they'll be adopting a co-operative and community-style approach to a series of events and demonstrations planned by Bristol Co-Mutiny next week (September 12-20).
Bristol Co-Mutiny is a collection of a number of protest groups. It says its aim is "to confront through direct action and civil disobedience the root causes of world-wide injustice and climate chaos."
Assistant Chief Constable Andy Marsh said: "Our aim is to facilitate peaceful protest and manage any subsequent disruption in a proportionate way.
"But we will make no exception for any individuals or groups who become involved in disorder or violence."
He said that one of the problems facing police was the lack of information forthcoming from Bristol Co-Mutiny.
Two open letters asking for co-operation have been sent to organisers – but police have had no response.
"The week ahead may be challenging, as we seek to balance the rights of the Co-Mutiny protestors to peacefully protest with the rights of the general public," said Mr Marsh.
"We would like to reassure local residents and businesses that we aim to keep disruption to a minimum throughout. Our overriding concern is always the public's safety."
