Two options

1. Someone has jumped off it
2. The bank holiday moron migration has begun and there's a big crash

Man am I glad I drove back last night!

The quality of driving on the M5 at the moment is shocking. So I'd not be surprised if it's a big crash.

Good news if it affects you: Some other bugger is having a significantly worse day than you.

http://www.trafficengland.com/motorwayflow.aspx Turn on the road signs and it's not looking a pretty sight there.

Looking at the various cameras, it looks like they're taking people off the M5 at Weston now.

They're trying to stop somebody from jumping. Unfortunately there is an accident in Bristol at the bottom of Rownham Hill and it's taking 1 hour to get from Pill/Ham Green along the A369 to the Clifton Suspension bridge.

Bristol is FUBAR at the moment frown

Well, I left work at 4pm and got home (near Cheddar) at 5pm, so not too bad southbound at the moment coming out of Bristol. The A38 is stop start northbound though in various sections (near the airport, Churchill lights namely).

As for the chap on the bridge, he must be in a terrible state of mind to be there frown

Well the traffic at Clevedon doesn't appear to have moved in the last 1/2 hour.

They've turned off the Avonmouth bridge camera now. Maybe he/she jumped.

I would have thought they would have shut the camera's off. You can see the emergency services on the bridge.

I'm normally sympathetic in these situations but talk about causing inconvenience to many, I have been speaking to a colleague who has been stuck down by Burnham for nearly 4 hours now. How long do the police actually attempt to negotiate for in these situations, before somebody just thinks FFS and pushes him?

It's a pity the police don't undergo lasso training. Would sort a lot of these things out.

10 mins ago it was on, but you couldn't see both carriageways. Just the one with the emergency services was showing.

Decent bit of thunder, rain and hailstones going on nearby. Should speed things up.

It's strange how they have chosen a bland motorway bridge for their last hurrah, rather than the romance and history of the suspension bridge.

It looks much clearer so hopefully the poor soul has been rescued.

Point West are reporting people have been trapped for 6 hours in their cars and the tailback now is 20 miles long.

Local news : 20 mile queues Northbound and another accident southbound. A38, A369, A370 all blocked / queued as well. Geesh.

I came up the A370 from Weston at 3am today, rumbling along saw a gorgeous Citroen DS going the other way.

Almost surreal setting against street lighting and with nobody else about. Beautiful car.

Anyhoo, don't want to gloat about the empty roads...

Surely the only time a Citroen DS is beautiful is at night, with no lights on? wink
