Hi

Just wondering if anyone can help with this one?
My other half was on the Broadway in Bridgwater, stationary in traffic waiting for lights to change, when our car was hit in the side by a white Ford Transit pickup pushing through the middle of the lanes (turned out to be a pikey from the Fair field) The transit hesitated then did a runner, but not before the reg was noted, which is X732 BBR. We moved the car just around the corner while we waited for Police to attend.I payed the Fair field a visit in the meantime, looking for the transit, at this point I was unsure if I was barking up the wrong tree, but all the signs were there,as he had gone in this direction, there were a few very similiar pickups with reg numbers quite close to the culprit, but no sign of him. Some 40 minutes later I was looking after my other halfs kids in the car while she spoke to the police in their car. I was watching the entrance to the field when I saw a transit come out and head towards us, as it got closer noticed that it was the vehicle involved, Police were facing wrong way so hadn't noticed, so I stood in the road and made him stop, then Police took over.
police took details, turned out he is all legal! big surprise! For some reason it looks like he's been let off the leaving the scene of an accident and dangerous driving (witness reported seeing him hanging out drivers window waving his fist and f-ing and blinding at the other car he hit!
It's going through insurance, damage amounts to about 3k.
The reason for my post is they all left Fair field a few hours after this incident, Im concerned about things going pear shaped with the claim, and it would be nice to know where they are at the moment, last seen heading toward Taunton sometime Monday afternoon. If anyone has any info I would be very gratefull.
They all seem to be into scrap metal and garden work and ages of vehicles are similiar, all the ones I spotted were anyway.

We're trying to find out from Police why they are not following this up, as Im quite sure if one of us had commited the same offence and been caught we would be up for a fine/points.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Cant help with the Van location but sounds like one for the IPCC of you dont get joy from a senior officer on why they are not being prosecuted?

Was thinking along those lines, waiting for officer concerned to call back, been chasing him all week!
Don't really need the extra hassle of complaining, but will have moan if need be.

Worst case and the claim falls through, you should be able to claim via the MIB:

http://www.mib.org.uk/Home/en/default.htm

who deal in non-fault claims where the other party wasn't insured smile

Not really local, but a few 'travellers' have set up home this week near Bristol....

'About 12 caravans are on the site in Northwick, near Pilning, next to the busy A403 which runs between the M48 at Aust and Avonmouth.'

Could be worth keeping an eye on local papers to see where the latest new hot spots are for them to move too. We'll be out and about this weekend so if we're up that way I'll try and take a drive by to have a look. Is there any obvious damage to the van?

Cheers for that.
No real damage to his, there was some black paint on the nearside corner of the pickup body, but that probably only improved the look of his crate! back door on ours is completly buggered.
A group of them were seen heading toward Taunton on Monday, but might not have been the same lot. I was told by plod that we had about 3 sites in the area, so it could have been any of those!
It's looking like it will all work out OK, very positive police report from PC at the scene, possible CCTV footage from junction close by (if camera was facing our direction) and a very nice lady with a witness statement, plus another car he hit at the same time has reported to local police station as well, so he stands little chance of wriggling out of this one.
Im a bit paranoid about this because I had a problem years ago after being knocked off a bike, git changed his statement a few days later and it took nearly a year before I got my bike back on the road

Bloody pain in the arse though, spent ages trying to find the car with right spec, only had it a few weeks and some twonk does this, lucky other half is in the motor trade, and can borrow one of their demo's.

Thanks again for any info, im impressed with what a powerful tool this forum can be, ref the recent threads of ebay scam and stolen mini in Plymouth
