The missus and I are doing a cheapo The Sun holiday down to Bideford next week, and I was just wondering if theres anything worth doing/places worth going while I'm down that way. We've done a couple similar cheapo holidays before, and generally drive around the countryside enjoying the scenery and the occasional nice fast road to make some progress until we find somewhere thats worth getting out of the car for.

Anywhere worthy of note? I'll be popping down to Cornwall at some point as well as I used to live down that way maaaaany years ago.

Thanks
Chris

I'll be down in Croyde next week - close by. Fab beaches at Saunton (where they filmed Ben Fogle and James Cracknell pulling tyres along the sand), Croyde, Putsborough, Woolacombe (slightly more commercial but good place).

Decent walk along Baggy Point (Croyde) with fab cream teas at Polly's tea rooms - overlooking the beach. Decent food at The Manor or Thatch.

Lytnon and Lynmouth jolly to look at, plenty of scenery about. Good roads on Exmoor.

Clovelly has mega steep streets and very nice.

Get past Bristol by 9am if going Saturday. We ususally head off about 8.30, take M5 to J27 then A361 to Barnstaple - hour and half to three quarters tops for that bit at sensible pace. Watch out for BiB on A361, usually a few unmarked and Scamera Vans.

Cheers for the heads up. Going on a weekday morning, will probably wait till 10 before leaving here. And will be very careful on the A361.
