Has anybody had any good/bad experiences with roadside assistance or breakdown cover?

Not much to choose between the two main players in so far as cost goes but not sure about coverage in the SW area, especially Cornwall.

PLEASE DO NOT NAME AND SHAME

RAC towed me back from Looe to Bristol as they were unable to read the fault codes. So thats fair enough, called them out on the saturday and they asked if we wanted to go home now or finish the weekend off. Nice of them that was.

Another company with green in its name wanted picked the car up then informed me that they would take me 20 miles and then charge me £200 for the rest of the trip to Bristol from Swindon???

A certain company (Orange vans) left me at a service station as i refused to buy a battery from them, a faulty starter had melted the main power cable and killed the battery at the same time, so all i was offered was a new battery at a stupidly high price. I refused this and told the guy the new battery would be fried before i got home, and was told it would be under warranty, so i then had to explain the battery would not be at fault so would it still be replaced. Never did get a straight answer to this.
To be fair to the orange van company this was a sub contracted job, but never did get any explaination from them, and havn't used them since.
