Conflicting reports from various traffic sites. Obviously M4 is closed and the surrounding roads will be gridlock'd, but does anyone know how bad the M5 southbound is?

Travelling from Cheltenham to Weston-S-M so am considering going M50/A40 into Wales, SSC and M49. Wos reckon?

I left Reading at 3.30, busy but not too bad for the whole of M4, M5 was busier but put this down to Glasto?

Think tmw and Friday will me a 'mare

The other half has travelled home from Bristol to Bath and there were no problems.

M5 southbound between 21 (WSM) and 23 (Bridgwater North) has been a nightmare all afternoon. Mostly traffic heading for Glasto I guess. Likely to be similar again tomorrow.

The national traffic news was saying that the M5 was screwed because of Glasto - keep well away

Yup! I avoided it and went down the A38 out of Bristol instead but it seems lots of people had the same idea as it was very busy getting out of Bristol frown

Well not that it would help you now but, M5 to M4 was definately shut. After leaving my appointment at 4pm in Sneyd Park I had to then get to Chippenham for 6pm. I could have chosen any number of routes but decided on up the A38 on to the M5, M4 then on your way, plenty of time to spare.

M4 was closed so had to head NORTH on the M5 to Dursley where I then had to cut across to Yate, Chip Sod then pick up the A46 south to the A420. What a pain in da arse

Just made my 6apt & at least im home tonight unlike the poor buggers in the accident frown

(Note: must get sat nav, must have radio traffic reports ON & must get the chuffin aircon fixed)

M4 was shut from 7am this morning due to a multiple vehicle accident - at 4pm I heard it was still shut, but I left work at 5:30pm and didn't hit any traffic (even managed 40mpg!). I guess some weren't so lucky - you probably passed an hour before it happened, and returned after it was cleared. (no lie-in tomorrow Matt?!) The queue for Glasto was even kind enough to start after junction 21.

I guess we're into the season for Friday-afternoon-M5-south-madness again

M4 was a fatal in the end.

Friend of mine was involved and luckily escaped injury. Her car was mullered though.

Just briefly, yesterday was a bit of a worst case scenario for both routes. The M4 incident in the morning was quite bad and came just as the commuter traffic was building up.

The issues on the M5 came from some RTC's just off J23 (Glastonbury bound traffic having hedge interface moments etc on the A39). That backed it up towards Sedgemoor services. Today should be a bit quieter.

For future reference: Yate -> Chip Sod -> Tormarton (straight across the A46) -> Acton Turville -> Burton -> Yatton Keynell -> Chippenham. You would have been in 'Nam in about the same time as it takes to get from Chip Sod to the A420.
