Hi everyone - as of next week I'll be moving down from Nottingham to Yeovil and was just wondering what car-related events happen in this area, if any??

Also, any really nice roads to enjoy in this part of the country?

Would also be keen to take part in any meets - just bought a Porsche Boxster to enjoy for summer, so I'm keen to use it as much as possible!

Hi Olly...

I live just outside Yeovil.

Car events this year are:

  • Cheddar Gorge meet this Sunday
  • Thornfalcon Show near Taunton on Sept 6th
  • Yeovil Festival (if it happens this year - didn't last year) usually sometime in August
  • Several Quay For My Car down at Poole
  • Bristol Classic Car Show at Shepton Mallett on 2nd, 3rd and 4th May
  • Dorset Steam Fair has a number of classic cars, bikes, etc - late August
There are probably many more.

There is a Yeovil Car Club: Website

They are running a Classic Car Tour on the 31st May.

Check out the PH calendar for many other events around here and elsewhere:

As for roads, there are some.

Obviously you have the coast road from Weymouth and Chickerell to West Bay:

Map

Then there's the A3066 west of Yeovil, from Haselbury Plucknett down to Bridport which incorporates Dorset's longest tunnel, which isn't bad.

The A352 from Sherborne to Dorchester is quite nice:

So is the road that leaves the A352 going south through Cosmore and up over the top of the Cerne Giant:

A bit further afield you have the (in)famous ZigZag hill and the B3081:

This isn't a bad little road either - Crewkerne to Lyme Regis:
