For all of you who are not aware, the UK government currently has proposals to reduce the national speed limit from 60mph to 50mph on single carriageway rural roads.

The proposal to lower the speed limit has been put forward on the grounds of safety, and is seen by some sections of government as a cheap way of reducing road accidents.
This is because it can be achieved at little cost by simply redefining the black diagonal on white circle sign on single carriageways to mean 50mph instead of 60mph.
However, the Association of British Drivers (ABD) set up a petition against the proposals on Downing Street's website.

If you do not wish this to happen please sign up to the Petition to: Not reduce the national speed limit to 50mph. http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/noNSLreduction/

Done

But It is my honest belief that the petitions website only exists to misdirect and make the gullable think they are being listened to when, in fact nothing happens, no one reads the petitions and they are laughing their arses off at us.

Yes I agree, but apathy doesn't get anything done either. At least the petition may highlight the plans to many people who would otherwise be ignorant.

I heard about this a few years ago from a friend who was doing work for a number of Police Headquarters throughout the UK.
He said the government would be introducing it gradually in order to avoid electoral suicide (just look around to see how many otherwise good roads have had 50 mph limits introduced recently mad )
