I'm involved with the Bristol group of the IAM and we have a small number of places remaining on our next course, starting on April 29th.

I wouldn't normally promote it here, but we've just found out that the National organisation will be increasing the cost of the course from the current £99 to £139 at the beginning of April, so if you book up in the next ten days you can save £40.

For your £99 you get three classroom theory sessions, a really good textbook, as many drives with a volunteer Observer as you need, a test with a Police Class One examiner and a year's membership of the national IAM. We'll even give you coffee at the meetings!

If you've wondered about doing an Advanced Driving course, but never got around to it then perhaps now is the time. After all, if you've never taken any post-test training, how do you know you're any good?

I hope this doesn't break the forum rules on advertising - we are a charity run entirely by volunteers if that helps.

I did this course about 4 years ago, all the way through to booking my test but I couldn't find my driving license at the time & you need to show it to the examiner, well time went on & I never actually got round to doing it.

I wonder if I could just have a few observed drives & have a crack at the test?

That depends - would you say that you've kept up with what you learned? If you're still at the same standard then a quick run with an Observer and a privately booked test might be all you need.

Send me a PM if you'd like to have a chat.

This is something i've always wanted to do - i'm not in a position to take advantage of this hint, but how many courses run each year?

Bristol Group run four courses a year, so there's never too much of a wait.

If you're thinking of signing up, let me know and I can suggest some preparation and reading you can do beforehand.

As with most things - the more you put in, the more you'll get out of it. wink
