Hi all,

Coming up to Bristol this Sat for a birthday night out and am trying to find a place to eat for 14 people!

Was thinking Browns in Clifton but they are fully booked, would like that kind of food though, Burgers, steaks, fish etc.

Any recomendations would be great!

Many thanks

Si

A very plush venue owned by some decent chaps:

Menu

Or just around the corner is Haha: http://www.hahaonline.co.uk/bristol/

Or down on the water is Severnshed: http://www.shed-restaurants.com/index.php?page=20

Brasserie Blanc - down in Cabot Circus.

Not actually eaten there yet, but it's pretty big, so you might be able to get a table!

Riverstation is nice, relaxed eating downstairs, restaurant upstairs.

Another option:

Could also try the brasserie at Bordeaux Quay (personally I find the upstairs restaurant over-priced with poor service but the brasserie is nice).

Aqua on Welshback, always had good food and service there

Or if you want to push the boat out (NPI) try the Glassboat, also Welshback

Best place I've eaten at in Bristol is Casamia in Westbury-on-Trym.

www.casamiarestaurant.co.uk

...closely followed by Max's Italian Bistro, just off Blackboy Hill

www.maxsitalianbistro.co.uk

Goldbrick House as previously recommended also very good.

No surprise at all, well deserved. We'll get there one day...

You won't find steak, burgers, fish or "Browns" type food at Casamia (As requested by the OP).

You will however get a dining experience of small dainty weird portions at a not particularly dainty price. Not my type of place but it was busy with people who obviously enjoyed that type of thing.

Not been a particularly good decade for dining out in Bristol what with Serge & Lucien retiring and closing "The Du Gourmet" in 2000 and Chris Howard selling "Howards" about 4 years ago.

If the OP originally wanted Browns I'd be tempted to try the Firehouse Rotisserie as mentioned previously. 500 metres from Browns, down by the watershed, so a central location.

That will learn me for not reading the OP properly.

And no, Casamia not about the portions, more about the taste.

Seconded. Not a fan of that Goldbrick place either. I personally thought the menu a bit bland (there was nothing at all on there I found the least bit appetizing) and I found the service wanting - in the end I just got up and walked out.

The restaurant in the Berkeley Square Hotel is still very good, with an excellent chill-out style lounge downstairs for afterwards. Good value too, IMO.
