Operational soon on Whiteladies Road, and Long Cross in Lawrence Weston: The 'Watchman' system.

It's not yet type approved so no automatic tickets, but they're monitored by the Council Traffic Control Centre. The unusual thing is that they measure your speed on approach, then use ANPR to record your number as you pass.

Well they'd better be more accurate than the flashing sign in LW as that tells me I'm speeding at 28mph! Piece of crap.

Our ones says "Slow down", and shows you speed over 30, if you are 30 or under, it also shows the speed, but says "Thank You"...

The fact that the 40 drops to 30 after a short downhill on a NEW ROAD, doesn't help things, even easing off some distance away, you still have to break to get down to 30 at the sign, piis poor planning I think.

If I'm interpreting that diagram correctly, then surely they are not recording the identity of the vehicle at the point in time and space where the "offence" has occured. The car may well have slowed to within the limit at the point the identity is recorded.

Mind you, for the most of it, thats all that is needed - I don't mind getting a stty letter through the post if I was being silly - if thats all it takes.

This may be why its not been type approved, and they're looking to dissuade (most) speeders.

I'm not entirely convinced they are what has gone up on Whiteladies as the first speed sign things haven't gone up yet.

I still think they are bus lane cameras.

The one near the top of Whiteladies facing up towards Blackboy Hill isn't on a bus lane.
I think the one at the bottom may also be just before the bus lane actually starts (would have to double-check though).

True. Also, the cameras themselves don't look like the pic posted in the UK Speedtraps guide:

Having said that, they don't look 100% like a traditional Gatso or Monitron either.

Whiteladies road is stuffed with traffic every day! Can't see that camera catching too many people out. Wasn't aware it was an accident blackspot either.....

Quite a few bumps had there, mainly due (IMO) to the fact that (a) of a weekend evening it is crawling with drunkards and taxis and (b) it's a major artery into Bristol and is always double-parked with lorries delivering to shops etc.

What's mad is that the lower section which is lovely and wide is no parking but the middle and upper sections are relatively narrow with no parking controls, hence the double-parked lorries.

Last fatality of which I am aware was New Years Eve 2 or 3 years ago. Don't know the details, but the timing suggests some fairly obvious reasons which are unlikely to be speed-related.
