Hi people,

Just joined up. I know the name's misspelt, but someone's nicked my usual pseudonym.

Does anyone have any experience good or bad of any mobile tuning / garages or rolling road places around Bristol that would know what to do with a 5.7L Edelbrock RPM based SBC engine?

Most of the companies i've found online will tweak my chips or injectors, but i need someone with some blue overalls, grey hair, perhaps a pipe (although not around petrol) and 30 years experience of twiddling carbs.

I've heard of Interpro automotive in Thornbury, and someone at work's recommended the MG workshop out in staple hill on the basis that they occasionally work on carb based V8s. (albeit Rovers)

The old girl's running ok, but feels a little down on power, tries to stall under heavy breaking and has never been the same since it was fudged to get it through the MOT.

Any thoughts?

Although not in Bristol, there is a chap in Plymouth that could help you out.

http://www.enginetuner.co.uk/about_us.htm

IIRC he sorted Rob67's Classic Mustang Fastback out.

I have heard about him, he has been operating for as long as I can remember, IIRC he used to offer the Turbo Technics conversions on the old XR4x4's

Hmm, i've been looking for an excuse to take it down to plymouth, but it would cost £80 in gas alone to get there and back.

Winter is also not the best season to take a car with no roof or windows 120 miles from home.

Closer would be better. :-)

Anyone else have any ideas?

Circuit Motors at Castle Combe may be worth giving a call to see if they can help?

Cheers for the suggestions, i'll ring around.

I gave Interpro a ring and they wanted £200 for the initial session, with the possibility of it taking 2 sessions. Eeek.

The problem being they want to take the plugs out and check the plugs and compression first. All very well and nobel, but it's a bugger of a job requiring double jointed asbestos fingers or taking the exhaust headers (and hence the whole system) off first.

I might ring them back and suggest i do that at home first and take them pictures of the plugs and compression meter. Not sure they'll go for that though

I would as already suggested try Circuit Motors in Castle Combe, the mechanic there is very good with setting carbs!
