Is it so hard?

Can the idiots in the council not use a calendar or common sense?

Needed to nip down to Winterstoke Road at lunchtime on Sunday and due to other time commitments could only go then and had an hour max to get there and back (easy!).

Dropped down to the Portway. Solid traffic inbound all the way back to Sea Mills.

U-turn & up across the Downs. Which was stuffed because (a) there was a fair on and (b) all the roads were shut for some chariddee race.

Eventually got across. Bridge Valley Road is shut, so more chaos.

Forced my way through the backstreets of Clifton & Cliftonwood to get down to the river; solid traffic everywhere.

The small swingbridge was shut, so everything had to go over the main one; more chaos.

Eventually got through, ran my errands & headed back. The only real option was to head for the Portway again & immediately got stuck in a queue. Reason being that they were resufacing the junction at the bottom of Bridge Valley & had stuck in a 1-lane contraflow & temporary lights.

Is it just me, or is it not obvious that doing 3 sets of roadworks in the same small area plus putting on 2 events, one of which required road closures all at the same flipping time is just crazy?

At least they were doing it at the weekend, which is some small consolation but surely thing like this could be better planned by a bunch of pre-school children?

My OH is a driving instructor based around W-o-T, so the whole Sea Mills/Portway/Bridge Valley Road/Clifton causes him huge problems, he had a dreadful weekend because of all the traffic chaos and has cancelled all his lessons for next Sunday as it's the Bristol Half Marathon so chaos will reign again no doubt

Forgot to mention: I'm not 100% sure but pretty certain that the Suspension Bridge was also closed at the same time (I didn't see any traffic crossing it as I queued to get onto the Portway and they definitely have a programme of evening and weekend closures at the moment).

Yep, was shut Friday evening til Monday morning. Rather worryingly, part of the surface of the bridge now seems to be a few planks of wood.

Btw, the charidee event was run for the future, to raise money and awareness of prostate cancer. Run was headed by Bristol's Carol Vorderman, who invited everyone that passed her to slap her ass. Odd.

Actually, the entire roadway is wooden IIRC. With tarmac laid over. Hence the frequent and extensive maintenance (and increasing tolls - which reminds me, I must recharge our bridge pass)
