My son was caught doing 118mph by an unmarked silver BMW estate on the M5 yesterday. What's he likely to get in the way of points, ban & fine?

Bad news Rob, I'm sure you've given him the lecture.Rob
He will probably have to go to court. If he can, get a legal bod to represent him. Somebody I knew was caught over a ton on the M4 and did this. He had letters from his employer to state his job would be under threat if he lost his licence (it wasn't, but he had a nice boss) and also a letter to state that the children he taught music to (as a hobby) would be disadvantaged if he couldn't drive to teach them.
It didn't stop him being banned for 21 days, but he got a lesser fine, no points and the courts said they were impressed he had taken the charge seriously enough to seek legal advice. (He was on 8 points anyway - points would have been a big problem for him)
A lot of people in court on motoring offence days, if they turn up at all, will sadly adhere to the chav sterotype, so a smart suit and a humble apology seems to make a refreshing change for the courts.
All the best
Sarah
