Genius, they've closed off one of the roads on Redland Hill a few months ago and are now moaning about the traffic congestion! Looking to put in cycle lanes, bus lanes (why - nobody uses the buses - they're rubbish) and take away part of the Downs and valuable parking spaces.
I work near the Downs and although it is busy during rush hour, it really isn't that bad - leave it alone!!!
I physically cannot get to work by 8am by bus, and don't fancy the 14 mile cycle each way (even if I could ride a bike!) so my only option is to drive - grrrrr

What Bristol in general and this area in particular need is fewer bus lanes and less meddling by BCC.
As you say, they've artificially increased congestion here by closing off the rat-runs that relieved the pressure on the main junction.
As for closing off the slip from Stoke Road to the 'roundabout', all that does is force the buses to negotiate the tricky bend at the lights with the knock-on effect of needing to eat some of the Downs to widen the junction to allow buses to get round.
I can't see what they're hoping to achieve; this junction has 5 busy roads hitting it and there's simply not the road capacity to take the flood of traffic that arrives there in rush hour, hence the old side roads providing some relief. There has to be a better solution but without a degree in traffic planning I can't work out what it would be.

Why are they making a bus lane down Upper Belgrave Road ? No buses use it !! The bus stop they are referring to allegedly has about 2 buses a day, although I've never seen one. And where are the residents of UBR going to park ? As it is, you park an inch on the cobblestones that border the downs, you get a threatening ticket from BCC. An inch onto the road, you lose a wing mirror - I've experienced both.
Yes it's busy, but it's never that bad, even in the rush hour. Muppets.

"It would see three new sets of traffic lights, new bus and cycle lanes, the upgrading of two pedestrian crossings to puffin crossings, and the loss of 18 parking spaces during rush hour."
Sounds like a complete pig's ear to me. It isn't broke, and it doesn't need fixing.
Prats they are.

Worry not. Its all a precurser to a congestion charge.
Soon you'll be paying £25 a pop to go to work each day.
Genius isn't itSoon you'll be paying £25 a pop to go to work each day.
ETA With the added benefit (at least from the council's POV) that when more people start parking outside the con zone we'll be begging for residents' parkig permits

I posted this on another thread so apologies for the blatent cut and paste, but...Soon you'll be paying £25 a pop to go to work each day.
Just a thought, and I'm sure someone knows the answer, but with Bristol trying to attract big names into the massively expensive city centre shopping complex, do you really think they will slap congestion charging on the city centre?
If I were Selfridges/Harvey Nics etc, I'd make sure it was in the contract to protect my business that they couldn't do it, before signing a billion year lease on a city centre department store.

They'll be taking their chances...and from BCC's point of view the more punters coming in the more they'll make or perhaps the CC zone will operate at peak times to minimise the effect on the shoppers but to screw the workers.
We all know that BCC will fk up the traffic so much that they can justify congestion charging to remove the problem that they themselves caused....
Good job I'll be gone from Bristol before then...
