Brissle residents parking scheme.
Discussion
Oh, bloody marvellous!
It looks like we fall into the area of the "proposed"* residents parking scheme.
Round us parking is not a problem so I'm clearly not going to support this. But, even in our last house where the parking was much busier it was rare that we couldn't park outside our house and that was despite the commuters parking there as it was only 20 minutes or so walk into town.
Then there are the charges, which are apparently going to be set at a level to pay for administration of the scheme. 40 quid for the first car, 80 for the second and 500 for the third, with a discount for the first if it doesn't feed plants very well.
Now what the fking cock is that all about? This won't affect me, as I have garaging and off street parking, but what about the poor bds whose kids live at home? 500 quid to park a Corsa outside your own home?!?!?!
And this won't just be for a couple of hours on weekdays, which would be sufficient to meet their stated aim of stopping commuters parking up and wlaking in (rather than using the park and ride schemes...). Oh no, this is going to be 24/7! But that's ok, because I can buy my guests tickets at a quid a pop.
Like there's a sodding alternative to the car, what with public transport being such value and so efficient in Bristol? wrs.
And what the cocking fk is it with plant food gas? It's a local council. Local. Even if plant food gas is a problem they should be looking after local people not encouraging people to buy diesel cars that chuck out particulates locally.
At least it'll make my garages more rentable
*Cos we all know that if the numbers stack up then parking tax in unavoidable

Oh dear.
There's one thing that Bristol are completely forgetting in all of this 'Lets be like London':
Bristol isn't London.
People live in London because its London. They've not a lot of choice. They also have a public transport system that actually gets them somewhere where they want to go (usually). Bristol doesn't - albiet unless you want to go to Cribbs.
People in Bristol will just move out of *that* area of Bristol, and to somewhere a bit more sensible. The economy is getting far too tight for many people for Bristol CC to think they can sucessfully garner support for another *tax*...
Bristol CC are digging a massive hole for themselves if they continue to add things like this - I like Bristol lots, but not Parking Charges and Congestion Charge lots...

Christ on a bike, they're not trying that on again are they?
Feckwits. What's actually wrong with commuters parking up and walking in? Surely that's the best solution to city centre congestion?
Oh hang on, just remembered we're talking about Bristol stty Council here. The last thing they want is a solution to a problem. What they actually want is the problem to continue and then come up with a way of charging us.
This way BCC is on a win-win situation. Residents have to pay through the nose for parking charges, providing a steady income. Commuters end up either having to use P&R (and paying) or driving in to the centre (and paying vast parking charges) and contributing to more congestion thus enabling BCC to revive their plans for a congestion charge (which we'll all end up paying).
Last time they tried to extend the CPZ amazingly we reacted strongly enough for them to shelve the plans but left them with a £1m hole in their budget as they'd already accounted for the income from parking charges - which incidentally proves that they were lying about setting the charges at a level that just paid for administration of the system. To get themselves out of the financial hole they de-regulated parking enforcement and made up the shortfall by going hell-for-leather on parking tickets and tow charges.
Utter s. Working "for" us my hairy ar$e.

You'd have thought so wouldn't you? Unfortunately, the council doesn't get any revenue from that, so it can't possibly allowed any more. The other question, is what's going to happen to the local shops? If there's no parking nearby how are people going to get stuff home? By bus? With bags of shopping and a pram (for instance) It's not like the economy is bouyant and the shops aren't going to have a hard enough time of it as it is
Just a thought, and I'm sure someone knows the answer, but with Bristol trying to attract big names into the massively expensive city centre shopping complex, do you really think they will slap congestion charging on the city centre?
If I were Selfridges/Harvey Nics etc, I'd make sure it was in the contract to protect my business that they couldn't do it, before signing a billion year lease on a city centre department store.
Just a thought, but as has already been said, it's the council so they do what they like!
