Mmmm, comments sum it up, really:

What a crap council. 3 million quid to build s'thing for non-existent buses to run on which most Bristolians either don't wish to or can't afford to use anyway. What other private companies, like First, get these kind of "leg ups"?
The way this city is run really does make it less pleasant to live in. No actual vision, no ambition, no pragmatism. Visit any other similar UK city and you can see how Bristol slides further and further behind.

got to agree, I don't use the M32 much but this seems more bks from the local council
I agree too - the M32 is fked in the rush hour as it is on the way into Bristol, so god help us with a rediculous bus lane.I mean, where the fook are the buses going when they get to the end?
Pointless exercise, and just there to rile motorists.
Well they wil be able to say congestion has got worse, and then charge drivers to enter the city. call me suspicious but I think they are doing all they can to justify charging on the grounds that congestion has got worse. They also seem to have changes some traffic light sequencing which is creating longer queues.

You're not wrong - BCC has been desperate to introduce a congestion charge for years.
Pretty much all the road planning that has gone on for the last 10 years has been aimed at making it difficult to drive in central Bristol with this in mind.

Even worse, they are now also apparently finalising plans for a bus lane all the way from Bath to Bristol along the A4. That road is already practically unusable at peak hours - this will create absolute chaos.

A new bus lane is likely to be created between Bath and Bristol as part of a £70 million package of public transport investment.New buses and better information at bus stops on the A4 through Saltford and Keynsham will also be provided as 10 so-called showcase routes are targeted by council chiefs.
The West of England Partnership - made up of the four councils in the former Avon area - is co-ordinating the Greater Bristol Bus Network, which will also improve bus services on the A367 between Bath and Midsomer Norton.
Work at bus stops will install Tube-style screens in shelters which will carry information about when the next bus is coming.
The improvements will start in the summer with work on a bus lane on the M32 in Bristol.
The £70 million is made up of £42 million from the Department of Transport, £20 million from local bus company First, £6 million from private developers and the rest from the four local councils.
Cllr Charles Gerrish, Bath and North East Somerset Council cabinet member for customer services, said it welcomed the Government funding.
"It reflects our aspiration to improve transport by increasing local bus passenger journeys and reducing congestion, particularly journey times during the morning peak."
He said technical work had already begun on improvements to the Hicks Gate roundabout at Keynsham and that consultation had been launched on improvements at Wellsway in Bath.

How many buses use the M32? As far as I can gather no local route uses it.
Therefore, assuming that they do manage to squeeze in an extra lane rather than nick one from cars, it will have exactly no impact at all on traffic except for:
(a) The new lower speed limits backing everything up.
(b) The mayhem as buses cut across 2 lanes to get out to the bus lane.
(c) The inevitable traffic-light manipulation to fast-track the bus lane into town.
Conclusion:
A lot of money spent. Congestion worse rather than better. More Bristol stty Council crowing over it's shiny new "showcase" bus routes (that nobody uses).

Agree with what has already been said, A4 and M32 already at breaking point at peak times.
Once Cabot opens in September/October it can only get much worse.

Whoever you vote for in this city, you end up with a tt. I've got no fking clue how this fking council thinks its residents are supposed to get around. I hate the lot of them.
I got a motorbike too, so they can fk off. So there.
I'm so glad I have fellow conspiracy theorists here. BCC are BLATANTLY fking up the traffic in the centre with stupid traffic light phasing, just so they can bring in the congestion charge. I mean, look at the state of Old Market now they've showcased it right up? A bus comes within farting distance and all traffic lights go red, for ages... Muppets.
I mean, Jacob's Wells Roundabout has needed better pedestrian crossings for ages, I accept that. But why put a series of stupid traffic lights in which don't flow. At all? There is now an artificially-created queue all the way from the centre down Anchor Road, that didn't exist a couple of weeks ago... Mupwits.
