Not sure if anyone goes home via the Clifton suspension bridge but apparently there has been a jumper this afternoon.

Causing traffic problems on the bridge and the road below it.

Don't know much more than that I'm afraid but just thought if it helped get you home a bit quicker then it might be worth posting.

Don't really need to go into the rights & wrongs or gory details, just thought it would be worth checking the traffic before you travel home if necessary.

Cheers

Oh arse.

Thanks for the heads up.

ETA: Just let my office know as several people use that route and we are in Avonmouth...

Makes you realise, no matter how bad a day your having, could be your car failed MOT, caught speeding, work not going well, or even just someone forgets to put sugar in your tea, someone, somewhere is having a worse day than you.

No matter how bad your day is, someone's going to make it worse by holding up your trip home frown.

Especially as she apparently survived. How furious would you be, having psyched yourself up, bade cruel world farewell, launched yourself off Brunel's finest in a final dramatic gesture of ultimate sulking, only to plug waist deep in the mud and get dragged out by a rescue team in an H&S orange inflatable boat?!!

As an aside, have you seen just how high the river is at the moment?

Must be somthing to do with the tide I guess, however I've never seen it so high...

Your right mate. Once again Bristol gets away with a big flood. Last month we had all the rain, the Avon burst its banks but thankfully no high tides so it was able to flow out. This month we get a fairly high tide, the Avon bursts its banks in places but no rain.

Its pure luck that for the last few years we havn't had both at the same time.

Yup - knew of a bloke once who jumped off an office block >5 floors high - survived and was rendered a paraplegic. They had to put bars on the windows of his hospital room on the 6th floor to stop him having another go as he was a bit depressed....

Agreed - thought the whole idea of the covering over the portway was to stop the disruption...

She tried near the end, as you say by the covered bit. Only went 40ft.

I drove by when she must have been about to jump, traffic was a tad slow.

I should qualify that I wwas on The Portway, not blasting across the bridge scaring people...

One of my team was at the pay booth when she jumped. She didn't see the woman but said the look on a mans face when he was running towards her, but realised he was too late will stay with her for a long time.

We've been talking about it at work today and can't decide if suicide is a brave thing or cowardly. Walking up to a bridge and jumping off, or making a noose and sticking your head through etc takes real courage, but not facing up to your problems is such a cowardly thing.

Perhaps a bit deep for here, but I'm still undecided.
