Cheltenham A40 "improvement works"

Sigh, some sort of road "improvement" going on on the A40 into/out of Cheltenham from the M5 starting in January for 20 weeks. Luckily being done out of hours which is clever.

Don't totally understand it but there's talk of a bus lane
. Please tell me they're not going from the current sensible duel carriageway system, on which hold ups aren't too bad, and sticking in a bloody bus lane? Also they're adding a toucan crossing somewhere. And obviously apparently "the majority of local residents want speed limit reduced to 30mph". Great. Used to be a decent, well flowing bit of road, we'll see what the "improvements" bring.

As you come into town, after the second GCHQ roundabout they're hacking down ALL the trees to put in 500 yards of bus lane, with a signal controlled merging system when they get to the bottleneck by the petrol stations and railway bridge.

Last i heard was that it's not going ahead, for the moment at lease. Lots of development at Elmbridge court though in the last few weeks.Quite why gloucestershire highways are wasting so much cash on this bus lane when there are hundreds of other roads in for worse need of even basic maintenance is beyond belief.
