Anyone found a nice pub that ISN'T in Poole or Bournemouth? I'm talking the proper Dorset. biggrin

My favourite is the Red Lion at Winfrith Newburgh which has a nice ambience and great food.

What's that one in the middle of nowhere, on the right as you head from Stoborough towards Corfe? Never been in it, but always fancied a look around.

I can't remember but there's always some interesting motors parked up out the front of it. Seems to be popular with what I assume are car clubs.

Seen several Morgans, Triumphs, MGs, some vintage and even a brace of Minis.

Black Horse at Sturminster Marshall. It's just been taken over by a young couple Jamie & Gemma. The food is excellent.

Is that in the village itself or the one out on the main road towards Blandford?

Yo Graham, try these :

The Coventry Arms (A31 Corfe Mullen)
The Judge Jeffries (Dorchester)
The Woolpack (Sopley, Christchurch)
The World's End (Winterbourne Zelston)
The Trumpet Major (Dorchester)
The Sunray (Osmington Mills)
The Virginia Ash (Henstridge)

The Brace of Pheasants at Plush, mid-way between Sherborne and Dorchester, for food - assuming it's still the same as it was ten years ago - or the Digby Tap in Sherborne for beer.

This is a good pub, as is The Museum in Farnham (nr Blandford & Shafresbury).

Come to think of it, any pub in which Pronghorn happen to be playing...

And The Chequers at Lytchett, even though it's been dire for as long as I remember.

Which reminds me - St Peter's Finger is a much better pub in Lytchett. In fact I should have recommend it on my list. Triffic little place

Last time I went there it was some sort of restaurant, not a proper pub as it was when I supped my first pint there in about 1981. What's the Baker's Arms like these days?

We use the Weld Arms at East Lulworth for monthly Lotus 7 club meetings. Nice little place surrounded by pretty good roads. Right on the edge of the tank firing range so some interesting sound effects & light shows too!

Also, I know the thread says not Poole, but the Grasshopper in Parkstone has a great cheap carvery and looks far far nicer inside than outside....

Well to be fair most out of town pubs are "Gastro" pubs these days but I'd still recommend St Peter's Finger. I had a beer in The Baker's Arms (off the A35 roundabout at Lytchett Matravers) last February and it was pretty nice, but not particularly busy which surprised me because it on was a Friday night.

I hear it's still good there but personally if I was in that area I'd do a few extra miles and go to The World's End.

I used to live in East Lulworth, the Weld was fabulous when it was run by Peter the transatlantic yachtsman and his OH, but I've not been there for a good fifteen years or so.

the Royal Oak at Cerne Abbas. Really good food, although you do sometimes need to book.
