Just picked this up off ebay for £1750.
Ford escort/capri engine & running gear.
Should be a nice project for this winter.

Any suggestions for a transplant?

V8 or bike engine, I would go for a zetec 2ltr. cheap and can get 200BHP with a few mots and will be fast as

my Tiger's only got a 130 BHP 1.8 Zetec but with only 640Kg to pust goes well

Vauxhall XE Redtop 2litre, 150bhp standard maybe up to 180bhp on twin 40s. A little heavy but if you aren't going to race it thats perfect.

Don't stick a V8 in it (unless its a RST-V8 wink) it'll make it far too nose-heavy.

A 2.0/2.3L Duratec lump can be nicely fettled to 300+bhp if you want...

Correct me if I'm wrong...
But didn't you go on ebay looking for a jet-ski??? laugh

I'm no expert;
But I once experienced a 'Cater-field' with a 2.0 Vauxhall engine (220bhp) round a sprint circuit.
It was superb, you've no need for a V8...

Cool, cheers for all the suggestions.

V8 would a bit overkill i reckon, and I've been told that Bike engine's are more suited to the track.
I'm leaning towards the 2.0 zetec on carbs as the simplest and probably cheapest option. I don't plan on spending loads on the car, it's just for weekend hoon's in the sun.

Any suggestions for a zetec compatible gearbox - and will it work with the Mk2 Escort rear axle?

I'd go with the Zetec.

At Stoneleigh one of the traders (cant remember who) was selling new 2L Zetecs for £450

Thats pretty good bang for your buck.
