Following this thread: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I am looking at getting a new kitchen, and it looks like I need to locate a good fitter to start with.

So, can anyone reccomend a good kitchen fitter, one that could locate the kitchen as well would be good... Someone trustworthy great as i'd want advice.

I basically need to go from the original (10-15 year old) kitchen to something new, probably add a dishwasher if possible. I dont know whether i need tiling or plumbing/electrics, which is why I'd like someone trustworthy.

I dont really want to spend much more than about 5k if at all possible...

I've just had some work done by this chap www.purpleturtleservices.co.uk

He was recommended to me by a friend and was very good on the work on my flat (although it wasn't kitchen fitting).

a decent kitchen fitter will have to hand a plumber and electrician for installing your appliances i.e gas/electric hob and oven, new sink/taps etc

Fidgits - how soon do you want it done? Our guy starts Monday and he's been recommended by all MOH's work colleagues who've used him (plus he used to work with the guy also) and is a bit of a perfectionist. Lives Chippenham way. Charges £150 a day and will fit whatever you want. You're welcome to pop over and see the kitchen before and after and judge for yourself! Plus you can help convinve MOH he really didn't want your Porsche after all wink

Thanks! smile

I havent even found a kitchen yet (it seemed from the other thread I wanted to find a good fitter first!) - but yeah, if he's local and comes highly reccomended I would very much be interested in hiring him..

Did he advise on the kitchen at all? or did you just buy one from B&Q and he's fitting it for you (what about removal etc?)

As for the Porsche, um, I dont miss it. Honest. wink

We went EVERYWHERE looking for kitchens. Magnet, MFI, independents from magazines, Wickes, B&Q, Howdens etc. Spoke to him on our friend's advice to see if he could help, he said he normally fits Howdens (when people ask him to supply a kitchen) or whatever people request. He suggested we have a look at the IKEA range - admittedly something we'd disregarded as IKEA is good for basics, but was unsure if good enough for a kitchen. So I had a look at the website, downloaded the funky 'design your kitchen' tool (essentially a CAD tool) and mocked it all up, costed it (okay so there's a button that totals up what you've put in your kitchen) and went along to have a look at it in the flesh. Pleasantly surprised actually! Units are really thick, solid and the doors are lurrrrverly (gone for red gloss). Had custom laminates that are a couple of steps up from your standard, heavier, better quality and about 1/3 cost of the whole kitchen lol.

Drop us an email and I'll give you our address - we're at home all weekend so feel free to pop by.
