The organisers of an anti-petrol protest being held as part of the weekend's Climate Camp have been advised to car share or come by public transport. One of the camp's organisers, Matt Banning, said they would not be adding to climate problems by descending on the event by car en masse.
He said that although the event's website advertised the best route to the site by road, he had advised campaigners to seek alternative methods.
"A lot of people have rung and asked the best way to get here by train," he said. "There are also messages on our site's message board where people are looking to car share or grab lifts.
"Obviously we want people to turn up in force but tomorrow's Party Against Petrol is for protesters closer to home as well. We're hoping the people of Bath will get involved."
Tomorrow's event is billed as a non-violent protest against car culture, and the campers plan to meet supporters at Bath Abbey at midday.

Bath Climate Camp's Party Against Petrol
On saturday 21st April, the climate campers will be having a 'party against petrol' which will start at 11 at Bath Climate Camp and 12 at Bath abbey. The event will be a carnivally type thing, moving about the city and highlighting examples of car culture and climate criminals, e.g, peterol stations, 4x4 dealerships etc. The event will hopefully include taking areas of road, usually the preserve of the car and making them fun and safe spaces for the rest of us. as a bike rider, I often feel intimidated and marginalised on the roads, and have spoken to others who feel the same, so it would be great to have a bike contingent on the demo, to highlight sustainable transport/rights for bikes etc. If your group is interested in helping out, could i sugest that you advise your members to meet at Bath Abbey (unless they are already staying at the camp), as meeting at the camp would mean a two mile slog down lower bristol road, just to turn around and come back into town again! If you want to ask any questions or discuss the demo face to face, we have weekly meetings every thursday downstairs in the hobgoblin at 7.30.
Cheers

More about Bath Climate Camp
The camp will take place just outside of Bath from late afternoon on Thursady the 19th of april and will run until sunday the 22nd. The camp will be 100% eco-friendly and will have something for everyone.
Activities will include -
* An ethical kitchen serving breakfast and dinner for low donations
* Evening entertainment featuring local acts and a chilled out soundsystem
* Workshops and DIY sessions including - making stuff from 'junk', eating and the environment, green housing and more.
* A kids zone, ran by experienced childcarers featuring activities such as poi dancing lessons (a tribal dance native to New Zealand), including a workshop where the children are taught how to make their own poi, face-painting and games.
* Stop Land and Marine - Friday 20th April - all day Land and Marine are responsible for building a 125 mile long gas pipeline through Wales, destroying numerous green spaces and wildlife habitats including the Brecon Beacons, and we have their head offices here in Bath. Resistance to the pipeline has been strong in Wales, so this is a great opportunity to show our opposition, and make sure that Land and Marine know how we feel! The
protest is open to everyone, whether you want to leaflet, make music, blockade, perform street theatre or a bit of each! Find out more about Land and Marine at www.risingtide.org.uk/bristol/pipe
* Party against petrol - Saturday 20th of April - meet at 11 at Bath Climate Camp or 12 at bath Abbey. A colourful carnival/protest against fossil fuels and car culture. the party will include music, street theatre and a kids bloc looked after by our childcarer team. One for all the family!
Attending the camp does not necessarily mean attending the protests
(although the more the merrier!). If you just want to come along and enjoy the atmosphere, learn about eco-living, talk to other greens or take part in the workshops, you are more than welcome. this is also not a local event, so just 'cos you're not from Bath, it doesn't mean you shouldn't come! You can find the camp if you follow Lower Bristol Road until it meets the A4 towards
Bristol, and we should be pretty visible! For any questions, or if you would like to be sent posters/leaflets to help us publicise the camp, please e-mail bathclimatecamp@yahoo.co.uk or check out www.myspace.com/bathclimatecamp

WTF does that mean? Frying an egg with a magnifying glass?
Isn't cooking harmful to the environment? I'm sure these fine upstanding people would also not want to cause suffering to chickens by farming their eggs. Surely an "ethical kitchen" can only consist of eating raw, naturally occurring, non-threatened vegetation?
