Just passing info on that a Pyramid selling scam using the name WISE (Womens Investment Syndicate)is up and running in the villages and towns between Bath and Bristol.

Linky

Women are asked to invest or gift £3k to a friend or family member and then are promised a return of £24k in a few weeks time. For one person to make their fortune, 8 people have to cough up their cash. For those 8 people to benefit it will require 64 people, who will need to recruit another 512, who in turn will have to con a further 4096...............

It's all done under the guise of women trusting each other with friends and family members at the center of the con, meetings are held in peoples houses with wine and a friendly chat. The people who are invited to these meeting will see a lucky 'Investor' receiving a huge wedge of cash so it is very easy to get people to buy in to the hysteria. Some people early on at the very top will get their money but the vast majority will be left £3k out of pocket with only their friends and family to blame. Men are excluded from the scheme and the members are encouraged to keep quiet about it.

This type of gifting/chain scheme was outlawed in 2005 by the Gambling Act so anyone caught up in it could face a term in jail and a £5k fine.

So if you are missing £3k or your wife/girlfriend has heard about a great investment opportunity be very suspicious.... although £3k to get your wife put away for a year might seem like a good deal to some people!

yikes......this has re-visited again!!!!!!

About 2 years ago I had a single parent tenant, near this area, who phoned me about this amazing way of making money & did I want to join.
No talking to her in the world would make her see sense.
They had sold her "hope" big time!!!

In the end, with the rest of my family very concerned, I drove 200 miles to visit her on the pretext of doing a house check.
Then dragged her of to the local Trading Standards office just before she was going to hand over £3,000 cash the following night.

They "prey" on these lonely females with some cash furious

Think I'll post this in the Pie and Piston as it is bound to spread to other parts of the country as people get more desperate trying to recoup their losses.

Yes it does appear people are that stupid, all about greed and seeing cold hard cash splashed around in these meetings. Muppet's.
