Is anyone here a member of Bristol Motor Club?

If so, is it worth joining? I want to become more involved in motor sport (rather than just spectating) and thought it might be a good place to start.

hi,

i dont actually know anything about the bristol motor club, but you would be more than welcome to join the bristol UNI motor club and join in events. you dont have to be a student at bristol to join, and most of our events are on friday evenings or sunday during the day, so you might be able to attend them if you were returning from uni for a weekend.

if you want more info our website is here:
www.bristolmotorclub.co.uk

or you can just ask me (i am the president of the club at the moment)

I think one of the Bristol area Mustang Owners Club UK members helps organise the Bristol Motor Club sprint events. I'll ask next time we meet (2nd Weds of Jan).

Hiya,

Thanks for the offer and, if I was in Bristol much during term time, I'd be there like a shot. However I don't come home much as Sunderland to Bristol is rather a long way just for a weekend and I would probably have to spend half of that time travelling anyway.

Was think of joining Bristol Car Club for something to do in the summer months more than anything else. After all, I don't want to be forced, through sheer boredom, to actually have to get a real job (shudder)

Become a Marshal, Combe is a stones throw away, and Thruxton isn't too far, nor Silverstone.

I think there is a thread on the General Motorsport forum with some of the guys who are Combe regulars.

Neither, I don't have the money or the talent to compete(unfortunately).

I was thinking of becoming involved in the officiating side of things or perhaps becoming a marshall when I graduate.

Why only when you graduate?

Pop along to www.msauk.org/site/cms/contentViewArticle.asp?article=2196&category=660
equip yourself with a marshals license (they're completely free, as are any training days you attend)
Once you have a marshals license, you can start the never-ending process of increasing your level of competance.

If you're southwest based then you're more than welcome to join the group the I go rally marshalling with (as long as you don't mind wet forests!!)

No point in waiting - join up now!!!!

Would love to but uni has to be my priority at the moment.

Might start the ball rolling in the summer though and attend some marshals training days.

I'm a member of the Bristol Motor Club, It's a great way to get involved in local motorsport events with a friendly bunch of like minded people. I was looking at getting involved doing events and went along to a club night and never looked back.
We meet on the first Tuesday of every month at the Hambrook sports club for a pint and a chat, feel free to come along!!
The website is www.bristolmc.org.uk

I have just joined so might well see you at the meeting in January

However, I will be back up at uni in Sunderland at the end of January so won't be able to get too involved till I come home in June.

Ps Is it all guys or do you have any other girls that are members?

I'll be there on the 2nd so hope to see you there! We have quite a few female members, most are involved due to their partners being part of the club though! My girlfriend has finally decided to compete next year on a few events after being a spectator for a couple of years, you will be warmly welcomed and you'll find it great to be involved in the wide spectrum of the events our club is involved in.
Have a great xmas and hope to see you on the 2nd.

Cheers

Dave

Jacs, marshals training days take place around Feb so if you fancy doing one then that's the time to do them. They don't tend to run over the main season for a number of reasons.

No need to wait until you graduate, you've got lots of time over the summer to get some meetings under your belt.

Marshalling is not just working on the bank and flagging, there are roles in the pits, startline, assembly, race admin/comms roles which us girls are often very well suited to.
